OS Selector and Windows 10

Thread needs solution

Dear community,

I use Disk Director since quite a long time and currently I have OS Selector 11 Build 3049 running for managing 2 Windows 7 installation. As Windows 10 is out I wanted to integrate Windows 10 into the OS director selection list. As always for such installations I tried the following on an empty harddisk:

1. Installation of Windows 10 Pro into the first and only primary partition - I did not create the separate system partition as Windows 10 wants to do (same procedure as with Windows 7, which is working with OS Selector)
2. Backup and Restore Windows 10 Pro to the second primary partition
3. Backup and Restore Windows 10 Pro to the third primary partition
4. create an extended partition (with Win10 installation disk and diskpart)
5. create an logical partition (128MB FAT32 for OS Selector with diskpart)
6. Installation of OS Selector the the logical partition

Step 1-6 was successful without any error. OS Selector identified all 3 Windows partitions as Windows 10 (I was surprised, that this 2 digits are already possible in OS selector ;) ). But when I now want to start any of those 3 Windows versions I get the error message (translated from german):

Acronis OS Selector could not load the operation system: Windows 10 (English): the type of the file system of the operating system is not supported.

What could be the problem? Is OS Selector not able to handle Windows 10? But it's a normal NTFS partition which was able to be read and restored with True Image 2014. Any hints?

Regards,
Joe

Hallo thecreator,

I'm using OS Selector which was part of Disc Director 11. Naturally was this developed before Windows 10 was released. Therefore the release notes cannot cover Windows 10. My question is, whether anybody succeeded in using OS Selector and Windows 10.

I cannot see any reason why it should not work. I did not find a hint regarding any change of NTFS in Win10 in comparison to Win 7, which works fine with OS Selector.

MrJoe

Hi MrJoe,

Did you know that both Windows 7 and Windows 10 have their own Boot Managers?

It is very diappointing. I just found out that ADD12 is not compatible with Win10. Have been using ADD10 since 2007 and what a great program it is. Used it for partitioning, resizing checking etc. my multiple partition system. Bought and installed ADD 12 a week ago. Had lots of probs and, at this stage, can't use it. Luckily I still have a Win7 on my multy boot system going and am able to use the old ADD10. Hope a version of ADD12 for Win 10 will be available soon to replace the unusable version as a free upgrade.

Hi Harry Bahrend,

I have not used Acronis Disk Director 12. I owned Acronis Disk Director 10. Have you installed Acronis Disk Director 12 in Windows 7?
