OS Selector complaining about USB Drive
I successfully installed OS Selector from my bootable media recover disk.
As OS Selector loads, it is complaining it can't read certain sectors on my WD USB Hard Disk. It's not a big deal as it's only for backups anyway, so I "Ignore All" and move one.
I ran checks against the USB drive and no errors are found.
Is there a way I can tell OSS to ignore the USB drive?

Yes, sure it is the USB drive. It's a new WD"My Book something something"... ;-)
I checked the BIOS already, but not specifically for what you asked. Will try.
The number is big, but it appears to be the same sectors. I will note them next time. I am currently running a full chkdsk against it /f/r just to be sure.
The boot order is floppy, DVD, internal Disk 1, the disk it is complaining about is disk 4 (the USB drive). I believe it is scanning it for an O/S. I suspect if I disable O/S scanning it will go away.

The full scan of the USB HD came back clean. No errors, no bad sectors.
OSS does complain about the same sectors. First it throws a failed to read error on HD4 at 487,731,368, I click ignore all. Next it throws the same error on 796,197,848 same HD.

With the USB drive connected, if you boot to DD Safe Mode from the CD, do you get the same errors? Does DD show any problems with the USB drive (red "C" on partition graphic, for example)? Is all information reported correctly (size, used space, free space, status, etc.)?
Also, in DD Safe Mode, is the USB drive Disk 4 or is something else Disk 4?

Finally getting back to this. I was just clicking through "ignore". Now all hell's broken loose.
I ran DD in safe mode and don't see any errors immediately. That disk's stats though don't look correct. Very odd since it recently passed a chkdsk/f.
Now I have bigger problems. Now, and I didn't change anything, I get "Error 3" Acronis OS Selector cannot find the necessary configuration files. Please reinstall....
I did that three times now and I still get the message. It won't boot my OS on my C drive.
When I reinstall, its asking me for my key, which I put in.
I decided I would uninstall as I do not need OS Selector right now. I booted from the rescue disk and there is no option to uninstall.
Please, I need to get the main OS booting ASAP! How can I bypass OSS and remove it for now?

If you included the OSS programs on the DD/OSS CD, select the OSS Setup option. Once the wizard starts, you should be able to select the option to uninstall OSS.

If uninstall is not available, you'll need to repair the MBR manually.
What version of Windows are you using?
Do you have a standard Microsoft OEM or retail CD/DVD you can use?

XP....
I found the instructions on another thread on how to use DD to edit the disk to stop using OSS. No matter what disk I click on (I have three physical disks), when I click advanced|edit, the screen goes black and the machine reboots. I will get my XP CD and repair the MBR.

Ok, ran FIXMBR and XP now appears to be loading. I'm going let it sit for a day or two and look real hard at this USB drive, it appears to be a bit whacky.
I can blow it away and recreate it, but other than wiping the partition is there some other method that leaves absolutely no residual mess? I want to make sure it's totally clean.
