OS Selector doesn't find OSes

Thread needs solution

Hi,

I have:

- Partition 1: Linux (/)
- Partition 2: Win 7
- Partition 3: swap
- Partition 4: Linux (/home etc)

on a SATA HDD and I want dual boot with the OS selector boot menu.

I have installed the SnapAPISetup.msi
The Disk Director installed within Windows 7 works fine.

However, OS Selector does not find any of the two OS installations.
It just offers "boot from floppy" (which I don't have anyway by the way).

This is the same wether I start the OS selector within windows or wether I have it installed in the MBR and let it boot up. I can not boot with the OS selector installed in the MBR.

My bootwiz is attached.
Please help!

Thanks.

I assume you're using DD 11. Is it build 2121?

What version of Linux is installed?

Before installing OSS, what method was being used to dual-boot Linux and Windows 7?

Hi,
thanks for your reply.
No, I have DD suite 10 - build 2.161

Windows = Win 7
Linux = debian, somewhat current.
and there has not been any dual boot before.

Linux was installed first, then windows which overwrote the MBR -> windows-only Boot.

Then I installed DD and tried the OS selector. As this doesn't work, I had to pull the windows-CD and restore the MBR with the windows bootloader. I tried installing OS selector several times (installation/activation from within windows as well as from boot CD), but had to revert back to the windows bootloader everytime as the OS selector has never recocgnised any OS on my partitions (which are being displayed - but nothing is recognised).

Thanks!

Hi,

Thanks to your excellent guides on themudcrab.com, I have just manually created the bootwiz.oss-Settings for the Windows 7 -Partition.
Then reactivated OSS - and it works, boot menu shows up and booting into 7 is possible.

Now there's only the issue with Linux left.

Now if I get this right, my LILO loader has been overwritten completely by Win and OSS. So I do not only have to create the correct OSS setting, but also I have to set up LILO again?
Is that correct?

Now what settings do I have to set in for Linux?
Let's google a bit and see what I find out...

Be careful with DD 10 in Windows 7. It's not supported and may cause problems. I would not recommend using DD 10 with any newer version of TI (don't install TI 2010/2011 while DD 10 is installed).

I've always used GRUB with Linux so I don't know if there's anything special needed for LILO. Nomally, OSS will detect GRUB in the MBR and allow it to still work. Have you tried fixing LILO so it will boot and then reactivating OSS (reactivate OSS from the CD)?

Hi,

Thanks for this notice:

Oh no. What a pity. I actually have TI 2011 and wanted to use it.
Well then, as I have GRUB running now (I failed to find LILO on my machine and then noticed that I am in fact also using grub ;-) ) I'll just get rid of the whole DD then and use GRUB instead. :-(

Well then. Ok. So be it.

Thanks for all your help.

If you want to use DD you would need to upgrade to version 11. Make a backup of the drive first before playing with it, though.
