OS Selector question

Thread needs solution

I installed Disk Director and OS Selector on an XP Pro hard drive. I then install Windows 7 Ultimate in the DVD drive open OS Selector. It says Windows XP and Windows in the Operating system area. I right click on the Windows (which is the Windows 7 disk), then click on disk as I have an extra drvie I want to install Windows 7 on. It won't let me select the extra drive so I can hit apply.

I also try doing this on boot up with no luck.

Please let me know what I need to do. Bruce

In the instructions under 8.2.4 it says "then right click on that item, select from the context menu Operating System Properties, Disks and set the target disk, where the OS will be installed, to be the first" The problem is I can get to disk but can't highlight anything and hit apply or okay. Also what does it mean by "to be the first".

thank you for any help. bruce

What build of DD/OSS are you using? Hopefully, it's 2,160 and not the latest build.

I assume you know that Windows 7 needs to be manually added to the BOOTWIZ.OSS file to work with OSS (it won't be detected).

I would recommend that you install Windows 7 manually instead of through OSS. If you're not very careful, Windows 7 (like Vista) will take over the booting of the XP partition (which you don't want).

Manual installation example:

  • Disconnect the XP drive.
  • Set the Windows 7 drive as the booting drive in the BIOS.
  • Boot to the Windows 7 DVD and install it.
  • Once it's installed and working, shutdown and reconnect the XP drive.
  • Set it as the booting drive in the BIOS.
  • Boot into XP.
  • Add Windows 7 to the OSS menu.
