Partitioning and formatting hard drives in Win 8

Thread needs solution

OK, new computer out of the box, so you know ii is loaded with junk and trial software, im used to deleting and creating partitions and then re-installing the OS the way i want it.

my questions are:
***if i have the windows 8 CD and key and no files, music, photos, etc. on the comp, there would be no reason to keep the recovery partition, is there?

*** and if acronis disk director (which I used for all my partitioning needs in Windows 7) is not compatible with windows 8, whats the next best software to format/create partitions like you can use a DD boot disk (Will a Disk Director boot disk work on any computer? The DD boot disk I have was made on Windows 7 OS.) I think diskpart from the Windows disk will work with

**Is there a at way to save the recovery partition? just curious

Here are the specs: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Sony+-+VAIO+14%22+Touch-Screen+Laptop+-+8GB…

John:

Whether you want to keep the recovery partition on your new PC depends on whether there is anything on it that you like/want/need. Personally, I'd rather install the OS fresh myself, so I always wipe the disk of a new PC before setting it up. If you have imaging software then you could save an image of the factory installation just in case you want to sell the machine someday in its factory-installed state.

You can use Disk Director 11 from the boot CD to create/format partitions before installing Windows 8. Or, just use the built-in partitioning on the Windows 8 installation DVD. Or, you can use Diskpart from a Windows 7 or Windows 8 installation DVD or recovery CD. There is nothing new/magical/different between the partitioning standards used in Win7 and Win8; they are identical. So you have lots of options here.

Before you delete your recovery partition, be sure that Sony provides downloadable drivers for any specialized hardware in your PC. Between the Windows 8 installation DVD and Windows Update you'll probably get most of them during the OS installation phase. But if there are drivers needed to support specialized buttons or some of the hardware, you'll want to know where to find them.
