Partitioning an external drive (Seagate Backup Plus Slim 2TB Portable External Hard Drive with Mobile Device Backup USB 3.0)

Thread needs solution

Thanks in advance to all of the help,

I also apologize in advance if this question has been answered before.

I have a Windows 7, 64-Bit operating system, and I would like partition my newly purchased Seagate Backup Plus Slim 2TB Portable External Hard Drive with Mobile Device Backup USB 3.0 (external drive) for differential backups on one drive and pictures, videos, Seagate's Mobile Device Backup, etc on the other.

* Partition / Letter X: differential backups - either using ShadowProtect 5 and Acronis True Image 2015
* Partition / Letter Y: pictures, music, videos, Seagate's Mobile Device Backup, etc.

What are the steps for preparing the external drive?

Does the Acronis Disk Director 12 software provide easy-to-follow (aka wizards) tools for a novice, non-techie individual to use?

Thanks,
Darren

A general question, is Acronis Disk Director 12 the appropriate software tool for partitioning an external drive amongst other advanced features such as cloning, assigning Drive Letters (A:, B:, C:, X: Y: Z:), etc.?

Acronis Customer Support was not able to answer this basic question. So, I'm hoping an Acronis end-user would be more helpful.

Thanks,
Darren

That seems odd that customer support couldn't answer that question, DD12 should be able to easily accomplish that task. FWIW, something as simple as that could also be accomplished with the Windows built-in disk management utility. Either one should be pretty easy for the novice to understand, and since its a new disk with nothing on it you can't really break anything if you don't do it right on the first try.

Hello Everyone!

Darren, I'm very sorry for the delayed answer. Yes, sure Acronis Disk Director can help you to partition your new external disk. In this article you can find the list of Acronis Disk Director 12 key features.

As for detailed instructions, they can be found in respective user guide. Basically after you add a new disk to your machine you need to initialize it (paragraph 6.1. - page 44), and create new volumes (paragraph 5.1 - page 26).

Let me know if you have any further questions.

Thank you.
