Problem with option "merge"

Thread needs solution

Hi, I have windows 7, and I want to merge partition :c and :d. The first time I tried, it did nothing. I tried again, rebooting the computer, it seemed that it was going ok because some white letters apeared before launching the OS. but then I found it did nothing again and I still have two partitions. Is there any problem with windows 7 and this program? Do I have to do something else??
thank you

It's generally recommended to avoid using the Merge (and Split) feature of DD. Serious data loss can occur if something goes wrong.

How much data is on the D: partition? Can you copy it to the C: partition and then resize C: larger? This can be done in multiple steps, if necessary.

Do you have a current Entire Disk Image backup of the drive? This is strongly recommended prior to making any partitioning changes.

the computer is new so I have no problem with data lossing. Partition :d is enormous, about 160 gb. I will trie with resize but I don't know how does it work.

DD 10 does not support Windows 7 and may not work correctly when a reboot is required. If using DD, it may be better to use the DD CD.

To use the manual resize method, you have a several choices:

1) Copy all the files on the D: partition to another drive (a USB drive, for example). Delete the D: partition. Resize the C: partition to use all the space. Copy the files to the C: partition. Note: You can use Disk Management to do this too. Windows Vista and Windows 7 can resize partitions larger from the right side. You can do this while Windows is running (a reboot should not be required).

2) Use repeated (if necessary) resizing of both partitions until all data is moved. For example:

  1. Resize the D: partition from the left side as small as it will go. Apply the change.
  2. Resize the C: partition larger from the right side (using the newly unallocated space). Apply the chang.
  3. Move files from D: to C: until either C: is almost full or D: is empty.
  4. Repeat the above steps until all data has been moved from D: to C:, then delete the D: partition and resize C: to use all the space on the drive.
