Problem with OS Selector - Please Help

Thread needs solution

Hi,

I have a problem with OSS. The problem is that It can't Find any OS. I have Windows 7 ana Linux Fedora 11.
I have read some other topics in this forum and I know I have misstake with Windows 7 ( I didn't Copy of the BOOTWIZ.OSS File). Now I know I have big problem.

I can't deactive OSS because it can't find any OS.
I tried to start Windows 7 installation disk (after restart), but it can't run.

My question is: Is there any way to stop the loader or any other solution?

Since you're using Fedora, did you have GRUB installed to the MBR before you installed OSS or were you booting through the Windows 7 boot manager?

Why won't the Windows 7 DVD boot? It should. Make sure the DVD drive is set to boot before the hard drive. You should be able to boot the Windows 7 DVD and select the Repair option. An automatic repair may work. If it doesn't, you can restore the MBR manually:

Open the Command Prompt and run the following command to restore the MBR:

bootrec /fixmbr

This will restore the MBR of the booting drive back to standard.

Another option is to force an uninstall of OSS. This can only be done if your DD CD contains the OSS programs. This is also the only way you can deactivate or uninstall OSS if no OS is detected. Boot to the DD/OSS CD and select the option to setup OSS. Then select the uninstall option.

You also should be able to boot from a Live Linux CD (Ubuntu, Knoppix, etc.). Perhaps Fedora has one -- I haven't checked. If you can, you should be able to access the BOOTWIZ.OSS file. You could then attach it to a post or try to add Windows 7 yourself following my guide.

I have a similar problem with the OSS - On initial install it took forever to install and kept coming up with "failed to read from XYZ Sectors" I said " ingnore all"

After about four hours - it eventually came up with the OS system control panel(Not in windows) - here it said NO operating system found

I then selected - deactivate OSS - it again reported No operating system found cannot proceed.

I then booted the system from a backup CD

Unistalled the Disk Director suite

Now the machine hangs on bootup with

Acronis Loader

press esc or F6 -

pressing escape does nothing and F6 does anything the machine just sits there

so how do I uninstall the acronic loader?????

I am running XP service pack2 on an HP small form machine

You'll need to do one of the following:

  • Boot to the DD/OSS CD and uninstall OSS. This can only be done if you included the OSS program on the CD.
  • Boot to an XP, Vista or Windows 7 CD/DVD and repair the MBR.
  • Restore the previous MBR from an image backup.
  • Use the MBR fixer tool from Acronis (instructions are in the Read Before You Post thread).
