Resize C: Drive and move files above old size.

Thread needs solution

Win7 Pro, DD11, two 250gb drives, 4gb ram, Dell Optiplex 750.

I want to resize my C: drive smaller

. Does DD11 move files that are above the size of the new partition? Same question for Copy? Thank you.

Hello, Alex

1. It is impossible to reduce a volume to the size which is less than occupied space of that volume.

2. While copying a volume, all original volume's content is copying to a new volume.

Best regards.

Hello

Thank you for responding.

I think you misunderstood my question. I know that I cannot resize a volume to less than its utilized space. I am wondering, instead, if files that are located above the new upper limit of the volume's allocation will be moved on a resize operation. I am concerned because I know the volume is fragmented, and that there are files near the top of the original upper end, the upper end being what I want to move down. Thank you.

Hi Alex,

when you shrink the partition all files are moved accordingly so there are no files are removed or cut.

Thank you,
