[Resolved] OSS - Acronis Loader fails repeatedly
Hi,
I'm using DD11 with OSS on a Win7 64-bit machine with an additonal XP installtion and had almost no problems in the past. This week OSS starts annoying me beginning after a VMware Workstation update installation (if that matters).
The scene's like this (error messages translated from german version so they may not exactly the same as in the english version):
- Acronis Loader fails with "No configuration file found"
- Restart booting from DD11 Recovery CD, select either Acronis OSS Repair, or Activate OSS button
- Reboot - everything is fine: OSS starts and allows to select either OS
- Booting Win7
- At login screen, choose restart
- OSS is still fine
- Booting Win7
- At login screen - login to Win7
- Choose restart
- OSS fails: Acronis Loader reports "No configuration file found", or "No commands found to boot operating system"
- Reboot using recovery CD and start over from above...
Uninstall and install of OSS would be the next steps, or are there any other suggestions?
Stefan

Trying to deactivate OSS from WIndows GUI fails after the recommended reboot with the "No configuration file found" error again. Using the recovery CD to deactivtae OSS worked fine and Win7 has no problem to boot.
The workstation update was from 8.x to 8.0.2 build 591240.

It sounds like you tried to deactivate OSS from Windows. That's not what I was suggesting you try. I was suggesting that you disable the OSS service that automatically reactivates OSS. This might help if it's seeing the system differently and actually screwing it up when reactivating it (which it probably doesn't need).

Yes, indeed. I did deactivate OSS from Windows. I was not aware of the additional service. However, after activating OSS and disabling the service it first seems to be fine, with the lack of having the option to select an OS because Acronis Loader did not start after booting, but Windows started directly.
I then activated OSS explicitly from Windows again and verified that the service is still deactivated. Unfortunately, the next reboot failed like the ones before (No configuration file found).

Does it have the same problem if you boot into XP?
What about if you leave the service disabled and don't activate OSS from Windows (activate it only from the DD CD)?

Well, I must admit that I never tried to boot into XP.
However, after the failure I reported yesterday I have activated OSS ffrom the DD CD and it seems that did the trick! By now all's fine again.
I think we could suppose this thread as solved. Thank you very much for your support!
