Restoring an image to a seperate hard drive/partition

Thread needs solution

Hi guys, sorry if this has been posted numerous times (I searched).

I have 2 HDs, 500GB (Main/C:) and a 1TB drive. My C: is giving me S.M.A.R.T errors.

On the 1TB drive I created an unallocated partition that I would like to use to restore XP and basically have a dual boot option.

Is this possible?

Using Partition Magic do I set the drive as 'Primary' or 'Logical'?

If someone could point me in the right direction I would be much obliged.

It should be possible. You want to use a Primary partition and it needs to be set Active.

I would suggest that when you restore to the 1TB drive that the 500GB drive is not connected. Don't reconnect it until after you have the 1TB drive booting into XP successfully. Don't restore the Disk Signature when restoring the partition. It needs to be different on the 1TB drive than the 500GB drive. When finished, verify with Disk Management that each XP is booting from and using the correct partition.
