Running DD from the CD and Windows 7
(Unfortunately they closed the thread I was going to ask this on... I don't like to "repeat" threads but - again they closed it so I had no choice.)

The last build of DD 10 (2,239) doesn't support being installed in Windows 7. However, you can still use DD from the DD CD as long as you understand that partitioning changes will not reflect the new alignment standard used by Vista and Windows 7.
Unfortunately I installed DD twice on Windows 7 and the system crashed immediately thereafter. Thus I know not to install it again. But I was wondering about running it from the CD and partitioning my external drives. I do this with DD installed on my Vista computer - I was also able to partition the C: where the OS is and everything was fine (obviously I did that from the CD.)
Can I partition my external drives (I don't want to do my C:) using DD from the CD on a Windows 7 computer? I don't understand what you mean by, "they wouldn't reflect the new alignment standard used by Vista and Windows 7.
Thanks,

Thanks Mudcrab...
I had no idea it was "aligned"differently. I am glad my internal drive worked out okay using DD on it (it's Vista.)
Since I have upgraded to Windows 7 I am having trouble ejecting my drives after using Dekart (an encryption program) maybe the partitions which were created by DD is causing something. Something to think about since I now know the alignment is different.
I will see if DD Boots on Windows 7 - I just wanted to check here first to see if people were having success using DD on Windows 7 from the CD.
Like always - thanks for the help!
Like the MVP title by the way - about time ; )

The alignment of any partitions shouldn't be causing those types of problems. The alignment usually only affects the speed and performance of the drive (SSD drives, for example). The drive/partitions should still "function" normally.
There can be a problem with installing Windows onto partitions formatted by DD. However, that problem has nothing to do with the alignment (the formatting just isn't completely compatible with Windows).

I didn't think so either... I have been working with the tech man at Dekart for weeks trying to figure out this problem and he asked me what program and how the drives are partitioned. But I don't think the partitions have anything to do with why they won't eject.
Actually, now that I think about it - this computer was running Vista - and I used DD to repartition the C drive to include the recovery D drive (since I would no longer need it as I was installing Windows 7) - took me quite a while to get that done. It wasn't as simple as I thought. Then I reformatted and did a clean install of Windows 7. Everything went fine. So I guess I did "partition" my C drive and then did a successful install of Windows 7 - it went well.
Thanks for your input here...
