Stop error 0x0000007e during XP SP3 bootup after Acronis Disk Director

Thread needs solution

Hi All!

A couple of days ago I decided to add new OS to my laptop.
Before that there were 3 partitions on it's HDD: with XP SP3 (the main OS used), with Vista (native OS of laptop) and HP Recovery partition. I freed up 60 GB's of space on Vista's partition and started from XP Acronis Disk Director 10.0.2.161 for creation of new partition using this space.
As I can judge process went fine, because all partitions are in working state and there are no corrupt files. However in the morning after this operation I've tried to load XP and got BSOD with immediate restart right after the screen with Win logo and boot indicator. After some experiments with ERD I managed to disable automatic restart after BSOD and finally saw the error 0x0000007e with first argument 0xC0000005.
Unfortunately no dump settings result in creation of Minidump or full memory dump - most probably bootup fails earlier than dumping process is loaded.

What was done:
1) I've restored from ERD earlier checkpoint with no success.
2) I've fully checked the disk with chkdsk, executed checks of system files in ERD, checked memory - no problems.
3) Executed fixboot, fixmbr from Recovery Console - it resulted in removal of OS selector between XP and Vista which I had to restore later.
4) I've also tried to backup files starting from AutoPartNT from XP's %systemroot%/System32 which seem to be part of Acronis with no success.

What I have:
1) Not booting in any of the modes XP SP3, which I would like to continue using (worked for almost 4 years for now).
2) Working partition with it and opportunity to load from both: ERD boot disk and Vista on another partition.
3) Strong feeling that the problem is in something left by Acronis as BSOD appears right at the moment when on the last boot Acronis started creation of new partition (on the light-blue screen before OS loading similar to the one showing when there is a disk check after unexpected abort).

I will be VERY-VERY thankful to anyone who can advise how this can be solved without re-installing XP!
PS: BTW it's strange but for some reason none of XP images I have does not allow me to make repair installation of existing system (don't mix with Recovery Console) - I'm only allowed to make re-install losing all programs etc.

Thanks a lot in advance!

Do any "autopart*.*" files still exist in \Windows\System32?

Is Vista working correctly (no errors or odd things after the changes)?

XP booted up okay at least one time after the partition changes?

If OSS is still installed, have you verified that the XP partition's options are set correctly when it boots (set Active and not hidden)?

Hi MudCrab,

Answering one by one:
1) No, I've moved all autopart*.* to backup folder in disk root.
2) Vista is working absolutely fine.
3) No, XP didn't boot even once - stop error always.
4) I haven't installed Acronis OS Selector, only Disk Director software.

Thank you!

Can you post a screenshot of what Vista's Disk Management shows for the drive?

Did you just install any Windows Updates in XP?

Is any other Acronis software installed in XP? If so, what versions and builds?

Have you run MEMTEST on the computer for at least one pass?

Does the snapman.sys file exist in the \Windows\System32\Drivers folder?

Does the snapapi.dll file exist in the \Windows\System32 folder?

Where you using OSS to dual-boot before the last changes? You said your repairs removed it and you had to restore it. Just trying to understand how OSS fits in.
