trying to clone disk, does nothing

Thread needs solution

I bought Disk Director to clone a drive, Window 7, from 150G to 1T. It said it had to restart to commit the changes, but after rebooting the system, nothing ever happens. I followed the manual exactly. Why?

Hello Stan,

please check if your machine can be successfully booted from Acronis bootable media and let me know the result. I've also created a support case for you and you will be contacted soon.

Thank you.

I am seeing the same thing on a Windows 8.1 Pro (32-bit) system with Acronis Disk Director 12 (release 12.0.3223).
I run Disk Director, tell it to Clone a Basic Disk (the booted external USB hard drive) onto a second disk (an internal hard drive). (The internal hard drive has no partitions, and has a new 'uniqueid' signature).
Windows reboots, and I never see Acronis Disk Director starting up - it simply doesn't do anything, just boots Windows normally.

Hello Jay,

have you tried to start cloning from bootable media? The thing is, that clone is performed in Acronis Linux environment and we have to make sure that it can be successfully loaded on your machine.  If not, you can use WinPE-based media as a workaround.

Thank you.

This is already three weeks ago, so I do not recall if I explicitly attempted to boot from Acronis bootable media, or I only tried from Acronis installed within Windows at that time, however, I am positive that at other times on that same hardware I have used Acronis bootable media successfully for other purposes.

As I found another (non-Acronis) product which did work (from within Windows), I will not perform further tests specific to this issue at this time.

However, for the future, if I encounter the issue again, I will look into the WinPE suggestion.

thank you,

Thank you for your posting, Jay!
