Unable to boot after resizing boot partition with DD12 (bootable media)

Thread needs solution

This goes back some time. I have used DD10, then DD11 in the past with no issue. Some months ago I got DD12. I wanted to resize the boot partition from 60GB to 70GB on the m/c (XP SP3 at the time), and as it was the boot partition, I did this from the bootable media (as I have always done in the past).

It did it OK, resized correctly, so went to reboot and - nothing. Would not boot at all. In the end the only way I could recover it was to reinstall the boot partition and MBR from a TI full partition backup (also using bootable media). I tried it again - absolutely the same, did it every time. But, I have never had any problem doing exactly this using DD11 and DD10.

Contacted support and they could not come up with a solution, they said wait until the next build of DD12 comes out.

In the end I resized it with DD11 from bootable media. No problem at all.

As far as I can see, there hasn't been another build, 3223 is still the latest. Since then I have moved the PC onto W7 anyway. However I am extremely loath to try it again in case it does the same thing to W7 - don't really like reloading backups unless I have to.

So my questions are:
- is this a known problem with DD12
- if so does it only affect XP boot partitions
- is it only the case when using bootable media
- is there a workround
- if not is Acronis known to be doing anything about it

Hello, Nick

1. No, it is not. The issue has never been reported, as far as I remember.

2, 3, 4, 5: Acronis Disk Director 12 b3223 was tested with Windows XP, and no similar issues were found.

Can you please clarify what build of Disk Director 12 you use?

Also, it makes sense to describe the environment.

Best regards.
