Unable to change partition label - internal error occurred?

Thread needs solution

Hi!

I have this strange error popping up and I can't change a simple thing like a label of a disk partition. I am using Disk Director 11 Home Update 2. FWIW, build number is 2343, and it's the English version.

I have been able to use exactly this same build on Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit, on exactly the same PC only two days ago. What has changed? Well, I have upgraded to Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit. So is this simply an operating system compatibility issue? Is Disk Director 11 in fact incompatible with Windows 7? Also, is there a build newer than 2343?

Solution: Don't use Disk Director! Use Windows Explorer instead!
This eliminates the very purpose of using Disk Director!
But that's how it is, just don't buy any more licenses or upgrades for it.
This program hasn't been updated for a long time now.

I can report that this is only an issue with the system disk partition where Windows 7 is installed, a.k.a. C disk volume. Changing the label for other partitions on the same disk drive (both logical and primary) works just fine.

Changing the label inside Windows Explorer results in an "Access Denied" message. "You will need to provide administrator permission to rename this drive. Click Continue to complete this operation."

Clicking on the Continue button in fact changes the partition label in Explorer. I am logged in with an administrator account to Windows 7. I can understand that Windows Explorer requires admin elevation to perform the task. But when I run Acronis Disk Director, Winodws 7 prompts for UAC (User Account Control) confirmation, and that should give it access and allow it to change the partition label. There is no need to manually run the program as admin (with admin privileges) as this has the same effect.

But none of this was a problem with Windows Vista. I did get a UAC prompt with Vista too, but that's all it asked for. Under Vista, Disk Director had no problem changing the labels, not even for the system partition.

I ask you to report this as a possible bug. Have your people look at it.
