Unable to shrink volume Windows 7 file errors
Hello:
I have a Windows 7 SP1 installation on a 1.5 TB Drive. The installation is three years old. The system functions well without problems. It is free of Viruses and Trojans courtesy of Kaspersky and Malwarebytes. Goal is to reduce this to 480 GB so I can clone the drive to a 512 GB SSD.
Activities prior to attempting this:
1) Chkdsk - no file errors reported, no errors reported of any kind
2) System File Checker sfc /scannow, reports no errors
3) Spinrite Level 5 deep level hard drive scan reports no bad sectors
This appears to be a healthy installation of windows with no file errors or disk errors.
Problems Encountered after running the above checks:
1) When I use Windows Disk Management Tool to shrink the size of the volume it tells me there are file errors and that it cannot proceed.
2) When I use Disk Director 11 Upgrade 2 to shrink the volume it fails and tells me there are file system errors as well.
3) When I use TIH to backup the image it fails and tells me there are errors. When I tell it to ignore the errors it successfully creates a back up image of the system.
3) When I restore the backup image made by TIH, after ignoring the errors on backup, to a different 1.5 TB drive the file errors reported, by Windows 7 Disk management Shrink command and Disk Director resize command, persist.
4) This is a complex Windows installation with 30 to 40 programs installed, many with license activations online. Redoing the installation would require two full days of work and require the re purchase of some of the licenses.
Any help to fix persistant file errors that even persist with backup imaging would be greatly appreciated.
