Unable to successfully complete partition of drive

Thread needs solution

I've followed the procedures to partition an 8 Gig USB drive into two 4 gig partitions.  Everything seems to work fine but the system never recognizes the drives. I need to figure out what I'm doing wrong.  I tried to find a step by step description of the the partition process without success, have I not looked in the correct part of the manual?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

J. R. :

I am assuming that you're talking about a USB hard disk, correct? If you're talking about a USB flash drive then Windows will only see the first partition.

What does Windows Disk Management display? Can you see your two partitions? If so, just assign each of them a drive letter.

Thanks for the info, Mark.  It's a USB flash drive.  I've got a USB Hard disk that I'll work on.

Thanks again for the assist.

if you go to Disk Management utility (diskmgmt.msc) what does it show you? could you please post a screen shot?

Hi there,  I have made all arrangements for the  new partition creation in the wizard. But after restart it does not finish creation of the new partition.  I use Vista home 64-bit. Could you please advise how to resolve this issue. And after the start of the Windows it just shows the same partitions as before the operation.

Thank you

When performing partitioning operations that require Windows to reboot to finish, it's best to just boot to the DD CD and do them. If the Full Mode version of DD doesn't see the drives correctly, you can try the downloaded ISO (from you Arconis account) or the Safe Mode version.

It's recommended to have a complete backup image of the drive prior to making any partitioning changes.
