Uninstalling Disk Director 11
I've used DD11 for years and been happy with it. But after a major system crash that resulted in new hardware with a UEFI BIOS,:
- re-install of the DD11 update 2 software from the self-extracting file worked fine. Installed OK and ran as expected on a booted windows platform; and then
2. I found that the bootable recovery disk for DD11 (burned from the .iso download image) won't boot (because of the UEFI BIOS). The same disk boots fine on a legacy BIOS system.
So I opted to upgrade and bought/downloaded the DD12 image after I noted the UEFI support in the product. A copy of the bootable disk for DD12 (again, created from the .iso file) was made and tested OK. But before I install DD12 appliaction, I am trying to uninstall the copy of DD11. And it just won't . . . . uninstall.
- I open control panel, programs and features, right click on the DD11 item, and then click on uninstall when that box appears.
- the windows configure installer box appears.
- whilst that box seems to be doing its thing, a second box appears with a big red X and the message "OS selector could not be found on any disk" When I click on the OK button, both message boxes close.
- there's lost of disk activity, but the app is not removed from the list, and the icon remains on the desktop. Even after a re-boot, and re-try, this result is consistent. Opening the program from the desktop icon after all this seems to work as advertised.
When I re-installed DD11 after the crash, I did not specifically select installing OS selector. In fact, I can't recall being asked: the standard install was what I used. So why the uninstall fails because that OS selector item isn't there is a mystery. I've searched the DD database for uninstall items, and there are a lot. Causing lots of heartache and angst for users and damaging Acronis' reputation, without any apparent resolution. Thus this query.
How can I uninstall DD11? When it seems not to want to uninstall?
