Want to install a second XP instance on another disk

Thread needs solution

Would appreciate advice on how to proceed safely.

I want to reinstall my present system of many applications, but without several that I would be better off without. The plan is to install a second SATA internal disk, use OS selector to make a second install of my OEM version of XP Pro to it, then install all the applications a little at a time while having the old installation available for reference until the job is done. Finally, I want to remove the old disk and put it to another use in a new machine I will be getting presently.

In addition to avoiding blunders that would make the system unbootable, etc., I want to be sure that the external hard disk I have for data file backup stays G drive. The system has a few virtual CDs, managed by Daemon Tools Lite, whose drive letters could change and I wouldn't mind, but I have thousands of shortcut links to the G drive, so I want to be sure it stays G drive.

I have DD 10. (Also TI 10).

Thanks in advance for advice, warnings, cautions, etc.
