Win 2K3 64 bits R2 - Question regarding creation of disk partitions

Thread needs solution

Hi!

First off all this is probably a noob question, but I need some insight regarding this matter.

I recently did a fresh installation of MS Windows 2003 46 bits R2 on an IBM xSeries server. After the setup, I needed to create a new disk partition, so I used Acronis Disk Manager running of a boot disk to do this.
The thing is, that the Acronis hangs during the 'Analysing Disk' phase - I waited about 40 minutes before giving up. I decided the to risk using Partition Magic, running of a boot disk - This one hanged at 19 % of the disk resizing phase, and resulted in frying the file system allocation table. I had to reinstall the OS - did the disk partitioning in the Windows installation.

My question is:
- What can explain this behaviour of the partition software execution ?

I really don't want to reinstall the OS every time I need to resize a disk or create or delete partitions.

I appreciate any help you can give me.

Most likely, the Linux drivers used by the Full Mode of DD are not correctly supporting the computer's hardware.

If you haven't, download the DD ISO from your Acronis account. It includes more drivers and also has a different menu with multiple startup options already configured (one may allow it to work).

Another option is to try the Safe Mode version of DD. This version accesses the hardware through the BIOS. The Safe Mode version can be included on a CD when you use the Media Builder program.

It's strongly recommended to create an Entire Disk Image backup of the drive before making any partitioning changes (regardless of the software used). It's usually much quicker to restore an image than to reinstall everything.
