Windows 2000 Server and Disk Director

Thread needs solution

I just purchased Disk Director as it was recommended to fix my space issues. I have 2 partitions on the physical drive. I need to merge C and D together. I can loose the data on D if I absolutely must, but cannot loose C.

I just wanted to post and see if there are any tips outside of the normal user guide as this is a production server and I do not have all the media for a fresh install but will most certainly backup first.

Additionally, how much time needs to be allocated? Looks like this needs to run from a bootable CD, so guessing remote access is not an option.

Environment. Dell PowerEdge 2500 running Windows 2000 SP4 Server with Citrix Metaframe XP.

Thanks in advance!

If possible, I would avoid using the Merge feature of DD (if something goes wrong, it's very likely data loss will occur). Instead, resize the partitions as required. In either case, do as you plan and create a backup first (preferably an Entire Disk Image backup).

Are the C: and D: partitions next to each other? If they are, the process is easier.

If you can copy the contents of the D: partition to another drive (an external drive or even the C: drive), you could then delete the D: partition and resize the C: partition to use the space.

When finished, any files copied off could then be copied back.

The amount of time required depends on the amount of data being moved, the speed of the computer, drives, etc. In general, resizing partitions when data doesn't need to be moved is very fast.

Ok, thank you. Yes, I can delete the D partition as it is next to C and then resize C. Thank you for the tip. Anything to make the process go smoother.

Am I correct in that this is a boot process? Or, is it within the software? I have been reading in the forums and this is what I gather. I ask because I would prefer remote access if possible.

Thanks again for your help.
