Custom Script for WD7501AALS-00JB1

Thread needs solution

Would anyone know of a Custom Script suitable for a Western Digital WD7501AALS-00JB1? Currently shows an alert "SMART monitoring is not available" when I attempt to monitor using SMART so my guess is it's an older disk without SMART support. Thanks.

JimH,

Does your BIOS have a SMART setting? If this is your only drive in the machine it is worth checking that entry. If you are sure the drive doesn't have SMART capability, you can set ADM to ignore the drive.

It is not my only drive, all my other drives have SMART and are being monitored properly with ADM. Only this drive shows the alert stating there is a problem with SMART. I currently have it disabled so the alert does not show, but I would like to be able to monitor whatever properties I can via a custom script - I just have not got a clue how to do it if indeed it is possible. Thanks.

I may have a similar problem with my maxtor 40Gb Maxtor Hard drive.
When I run Acronis Drive Monitor [v. 1.0.566] it recognises the main boot drive C: as a 250Gb Toshiba and smart monitoring is working fine. But the Usb drive is recognised as a Generic 40Gb drive and cannot retrieve the smart parameters for the this disk.
Why is my usb 40gb maxtor drive not allowing smart monitor to see the smart drive parameters although I know this drive gives a critical warning when used as a master or slave drive when directly connected to an IDE interface instead of a usb interface. Can you help me if I need to put in a custom script or not.

The following test is the log file obtained when the drive was booted up with seagate tools for DOS v2.13bPGE

When this drive is used to bootup into Windows the bios needs an F1 key to
continue due to a critical error message from smart monitor even though the Bios
settings are set to disable for smart monitoring.
Is this information sufficient to tell me if custom script would enable this drive to be monitored with
Acronis drive monitor.
By the way the drive passes all windows scandisks test but fails the long test in the seagate tools
disk test. One of the main parameters that show as the reason that the smart test failed is the
reallocated sectors is above the set threshold. But I dont know if this is really true or not.
