I have a hard time understanding some of the numbers I'm getting from ADM, mostly with the raw values.

Thread needs solution

Here is a typical line:

Seek Error Rate, 2147483647 (raw), 70 (value), 30 (threshold), OK

I read thru all the forum posts and #5 says that big raw # is quite simple. Maybe for a programmer, it would be simple, but, if an algorithm exists to display a meaningful number, ADM really should crunch that useless number into the actual value. If ADM will not be modified in the near future to produce meaningful numbers, can a formula or algorithm be given so I can calculate the number ADM should be providing? I'm assuming 70 is not that calculated number, as it is above the threshold. What is the signifance of 70?

Is there a SMART document that describes these attribute names? As an example, I'm getting the same raw value for Start/Stop Count and Load/Unload Cycle Count. Hopefully there is something better than "This parameter is considered informational by the most hardware vendors. Although degradation of this parameter can be an indicator of drive aging ..."

Thanks,
Norm

Some values need to be above the threshold and some below.

There is a link somewhere to a SMART standard, but note not all drives impliment it (bit like a car OBD data) fully or exactly to spec. Ditto for those programs that read it.

The parameter you mention in your post means different things to different drive manufacturers - so you need to see if the drive maker has anything to say on the SMART attributes they are using.
