Hello Walter,

Thank you for using Acronis Recovery for Microsoft Exchange.

I will clarify this situation regarding latest Exchange Server support.

Current version of the product does support Windows Server 2008 (32-bit, 64-bit), but current build of the application does not support Exchange Server 2010, we will surely add this database support in one of next releases. Please check this article for full list of supported operating systems and this one for supported Exchange Servers.

I'd like to make sure all your queries regarding Acronis products are resolved.
Additionally to this, you are welcome to ask me any other questions concerning Acronis, and I will assist you further.

Thank you.

Hi.

We are going to install the same products (Win 2008 R2 Srv Std 64-Bit and
Exchange 2010 Std 64-Bit) next week at multiple customers and really would
appreciate that function too.
Any idea until which date an update to "Acronis Recovery for Microsoft Exchange"
will be ready that will support Exchange 2010?

And a second question:
In Exchange 2007 it was necessary to install "MAPI Client and CDO 1.2.1".
Will this be necessary too, to make "Acronis Recovery for Microsoft Exchange" work
with Exchange 2010?
I ask this because that MAPI/CDO Component cannot be installed on a server if
Microsoft Outlook is already installed on that server. But exactly this is the case in our
scenario, because the same machine where Exchange 2010 resides is also used as
a TerminalServer and therefore has to offer the Outlook-client to the Terminal Users.
Would it maybe work to uninstall Outlook, install MAPI/CDO, and then reinstall Outlook?

Thanks in advance.

Hello Udo!

Thank you for trusting our software.

I regret to say that there are no time frames regarding the release date of the version supporting Exchange 2010. At the moment we are working on it, and are doing everything to speed up the process - but rushing to release the product should not affect its reliability and stability, so we prefer to carefully test every new feature we implement and every build we are gathering and preparing to release. I will anyway be glad to submit the request to the management team so that they could be aware that the newer version is looked forward to - that is important for us, we do value our customer's needs and appreciate every comment.

If to speak about the installation: unfortunately MAPI and Outlook are incompatible and will not work together on the same machine even if you install the Outlook after the MAPI Client. I have contacted the Expert's team and the product management to find out whether there will be any changes made, and at the moment we are expecting that in the newer build the usage of the MAPI will be reduced to minimal  - but still it will be present. I will also submit the Customer Listening System Case with the request to find out the workaround, and I can promise you that it will be paid undivided attention, but I cannot grant you that this will be improved.

I would appreciate if you could share with us here your further concerns and ideas - it helps us to make the product suit your needs. Should you have any further questions - feel free to ask, we'll gladly help.

Thank you.

I would like to know this too. We have to plan a installation of a exchange 2010 server, but we cannot because
we do not know when to expect a acronis version which is compatible. Since the development and bugfixing of this
products has a low priority (last build is half year old), I'm really concerned!

Dear Site!

Thank you for sharing your concerns with us - we really appreciate that. Be sure that as soon as we have the newer build released - you will be immediately notified, we'll update Forum threads related to this issue as well as send the notifications via newsletters (you can subscribe here).

We will keep you posted regarding the latest news we receive about the update available, and please don't hesitate to share your feedback with us further on.

Thank you!

Does the newest Build 239 from 24th of May still not support Exchange 2010 and if not is there any idea, when support for 2010 will be released (eg Q4/10) ?

Hello Euregit!

Welcome to our Forum, it's nice to have you with us!

Unfortunately we have no timeframes available regarding release date of the update which will support Exchange 2010. Currently our Developers are busy working on it, and as soon as we have any news from them, we'll definitely update you.

I will also forward your comment to the Management team so that they could be aware of the situation and could check whether it's possible to speed up the process.

Should you need anything else or have any further questions - feel free to contact us at your earliest convenience, we will be happy to help you!

Thank you!

Hello,

Acronis Germany told me to wait for the next Acronis company solution in 2011 !
There will be no Exchange 2010 client until 2011 !
I am very sorry to say this, but this is ridiculous. Microsoft Exchange 2010 is on the market and needs a backup solution. All the other backup solution providers like Sym... etc. are providing a working software.
So, do we have to change our backup software now ?

Thank you

I agree that it is not satisfying to have no working Backup solution from Acronis nearly one year after Exchange 2010 has been released and two years since the Beta. On the other hand the SQL-Backup-Client hasn't been develeoped any more since the first build over two years ago, so we can be glad, if the Exchange-Agent will be updated in the future.

@Yana
Anyway, thanks for the fast response

Hello Yana,

your answer was from last year.
Is there now an update or vewrsion from Acronis for MS Exchange which can backup the information in MS Exchange 2010 Server?
If not. Do you have an ETA now?

best regards,
Dirk

Hallo Herr Estenfeld,

I just migrated my server to Exchange 2010 and now find out that you do not support it. I need to know WHEN it will be supported. Ask your development manager WHEN he expects this update to be completed. Simply saying "I don't know" is not acceptable. When I was asked to pay for the product, I did not give you an answer like that, I paid for it. Now I expect it to work. Am I being unreasonable?

You're soooooo right.
14 months, since this thread started, and the desired (and promised!) feature is still missing,
as well as an answer 'till WHEN it'll be implemented is still missing too...
I am seriously considering to migrate all our customers backup-solutions to a product where
the development of new features as well as the communications about such developments
really work.
Here, it obviously doesn't. And I feel pretty much left alone with the product I bought and which
I recommended (so far) to our customers.

We all can conclude that this software is useless. To much problems, no/slow development, incompatible issues and no support.
The conclusion is also that you shouldn't have to pay for software you cannot use.

I took this decision, and stopped using acronis for exchange and for sql.
Since I'm so disappointed in acronis support I stopped using acronis B&R for almost every server too.
I will keep using one or two for physical servers, and will not extend maintenance for the rest we have, and for exchange and sql.
Acronis lost us as customer, and switched over to vizioncore vRanger Pro with vReplicvator. For the last year we already are using
this we are really happy with the support they given us.

Great tool ;)

Let's take a look at the features described on the web side:

• Supports Exchange server 5.5, 2000 and 2003.

• Compatible with 2000/ XP/ 2003

very compatible ..................

Okay, Exchange 2010 64-Bit ServicePack1 is out there.
And still no Acronis Recovery for Exchange 2010 available...
When will it finally be implemented? ...When Exchange 2014 is on the market? LOL

Hello

We are in march of the year 2011, when Acronis will be deliver his product for Exchange 2010????

Do we have to choose another backup solution?

I agree with all of the above. We have been slow getting around to Exchange 2010 at our company, finally put it on the front burner for deployment, now find out Acronis still hasn't released an updated version of their Exchange backup software?!?!? This is really too bad, I really like the current product. But now it's mid-March - 2011! Exchange 2010 came out in Nov of 2009 I believe. 1 year, 4 months and nothing? Really?

We should change this thread to a "what products are you using instead?" thread, it would be a lot more helpful. Any suggestions???

Hello all,

Thank you for your posts. Please rest assured that your feedback is submitted to our Program Management team.

Alejandro, I will definitely help you with this question.

You can create backups of databases with Acronis software using VSS. You will be able to create a partition backup with database transactions intact. Please check this KB article for additional information and if you need additional assistance please let me know.

Thank you.

Hi,

Sorry to hijack the thread,

We have previously purchased Acronis Backup & Recovery 10 Advance Server Bundled with Universal Restore - ver 10.0.12708 to backup the OS

Would like to check if we need to perform BMR restore to dissimilar hardware for an Exchange 2010 server (excluding the DBs) running on Windows 2008R2 OS using the Acronis tool, would my current Acronis version support this functionality?

I'm confused if "Acronis Recovery for Microsoft Exchange" would be required to perform the BMR instead?

Thanks.

ABR can perform BMR of the whole machine (with Exchange databases, it can't exclude them during restore but you can exclude them during backup if you need). Recovery for Exchange can't perform BMR but it can restore entire exchange database. It also can perform granular restore (which ABR 10 can't)

Hello Mario,

Thank you for your question, I will be glad to address it.

The support for  Exchange 2010 backup is planned to be added to the Update2 for Acronis Backup and Recovery 11. Unfortunately we do not have any time-frame regarding its release date, but as soon as we get any information about it, we will immediately update you.

Thank you for your interest and support, we really appreciate it.

Does this mean that those that purchased Recovery for MS Exchange will have to purchase a new product license? You make it sound like support will be added to another application you currently have. I purchased Recovery for MS Exchange for use with my Exchange 2007 server, and upon update to Exchange 2010 approx 60 days later found out this product does not support Exchange 2010. If you look back in this thread you will see where we were all lead to believe we would be taken care of, and that we all did not waste the $1200. We have all sat here waiting for a resolution, and now it sounds like the resolution is that we will have to purchase another Acronis product. Please clarify what the policy will be. I think that after waiting as long as we have, we deserve some form of an answer. Asking us to wait another 6 months only to be told we have to purchase another product from Acronis is not the correct way to resolve this.

Good point, Doug Scott. I absolutely agree. I guess everybody here does.
I'm willing to upgrade from ABR (Acronis Backup+Recovery) 10 to 11, but only if it finally supports Exchange (2010 R2) restore
of individual objects (mailboxes, mailbox-folders, calendar...) just like it did with the older Exchanges.
@dev-anon: WTF is "BMR"??

Hello Yana,

in 2010-07-29 you said nearly the same
(Unfortunately we have no timeframes available regarding release date of the update which will support Exchange 2010. Currently our Developers are busy working on it, and as soon as we have any news from them, we'll definitely update you).
Is it not possible to say, for example, three month ore maybe one year?
I'm still waiting now 1 year (!), and I want to know, if I have to wait one more year!

If I would give such an answer to my customers I would lose them all!

Bare Metal Recovery

I hope some important people see this thread, to me it has been an ongoing issue at Acronis. It feels alot of times like the customers are being the R&D. There needs to be longer or more beta testing inside and for the public. I tried B&R 11, took me about 3 installs before it launched correctly then I couldn't create any new jobs. I went back to 10 since it has been working fine for me.

I don't know how some of you are still hoping they come out with Exchange 10 support, we had to move forward, so we dropped the renewal for Exchange and a few of our B&R licenses this year.

I really love Acronis products and I can understand time needed to develop products in reaction to newly released platforms (ie exchange 2010) but two years and counting? You guys, at one time, had the best name in the business. Being unable to backup one of the most mission critical and widely used platforms in the world (exchange 2010) for two years running has made you a non-contender just as quickly.

It’s simple. I can’t justify software renewal when you can’t support the products we (and the rest of the mainstream) use. If you can’t back up my mail server and I’m forced to go with your competition, I’m forced to change my backup software on every server so that my products are standardized in my entire enterprise. Once that happens I’m not coming back to Acronis no matter when (or if) you finally release exchange 2010 support.

My support runs out at the end of this year. I sure hope you have a released and working exchange 2010 brick level backup support by then or I have a lot of work ahead of me changing out Acronis for something else on everything I own and on all of the clients I support 3rd party.

And if it gets to that point.. we both lose don't we?

Jason

Let me get this straight- I have a Server 2008R2 box hosting Exchange 2010, SP1. Forget for a moment Exchange-only backup, I'm taking a full system image with ABR10 (afraid to upgrade to 11 due to fears that PImoose confirms). In the case of catastrophic failure, my intention is to restore the server from an ABR10 image backup in it's entirety. That is all volumes along with Exchange which of course is part of the system being backed up.

Given this scenario, is it true that Exchange 2010 will not restore correctly along with the rest of the server OS and apps??? If so, I have a lot more work ahead of me than I thought just looking for an Exchange 2010-specific backup solution as a supplement to ABR10 (I've officially given up on an Acronis Exchange-only backup app compatible with 2010).

I have found that restoring complete Exchange 2010 from backup is far easier if you just start from scratch, install exchange 2010 using the active directory recovery method, and drop the backed up copy of the mail database into that. I have not been able to ever restore from backup complete and have it work. If you need to recover one mailbox, and have Exchange 2010, acronis is of no good to you, if you have Exchange 2007, acronis can restore a single email message back into it, but not Exchange 2010. For some reason, it is so hard to program this feature for Exchange 2010, acronis has not managed to figure it out for 2 years now.

Hi Doug- If you're responding to me, yeah, I'm not talking about restoring a single message with Acronis onto Exchange 2010. I know that no worky.

I'm talking about starting with a bare metal server and restoring an Acronis ABR10 image of an Exchange 2010 server to it. I would only use it as last resort, if I couldn't restore any other way. But it would be nice to know that it would work and Exchange would hook back into Active Directory. ...Will it?

Per your other comments, with Exchange 2003, numerous times in a test environment I installed Server 2003 from scratch, installed Exchange 2003 with the disaster recovery switch, then restored an Acronis for Exchange information store backup. It was quite whiz-bang and worked like a charm every time! Too bad I don't have that option with 2010...

Not comforting that not even a full image backup will restore Exchange correctly if that's the case. What I'm hearing is that my entire backup solution is absolutely worthless right now for my brand new Exchange 2010 server. :-/

Yes, I was replying to your post, did not select quote by mistake. Not sure why you say you cannot use the disaster recovery option with Exchange 2007/2010. I have had to do just that a month ago. It may be that I have the simplest form of Exchange server in place though. One server does everything. The only extra parts I had to do was recreate the ssl, autodiscover and other minor tweaks before restoring the information server database. I do not look forward to ever having to try to get one mailbox back though.

I'm not saying that a disaster recovery install of Exchange 2010 wouldn't work, I'm saying I wouldn't have an info store backup to restore to Exchange once it was reinstalled. I've used the Acronis info store backups for that in the past, but now I can't take one since there's no exchange 2010 backup product from Acronis. Which i've already given up on waiting for.

I'm wondering, based on other posts here, if an ABR10 image of an Exchange 2010 server will restore correctly to new hardware, and it sounds like the answer is no.

Since 9 months gone again, can we now trust that Acronis will NOT release an Exchange 2010 backup solution?

I'm using ABR11 with MS VSS, and wondering how to manage the database logging?
As long as circular logging is not enabled the logs seems never been truncated. As per MS event logs the VSS backup initialized by ABR 11 is from type "copy"

Thanks for any advice.
