Getting rid of circular logging

Thread needs solution

We are using Acronis to backup our Exchange server. We also have the Exchange storage groups configured to use circular logging. As a result Acronis does a full backup all the time rather than the full/incremental we would like.

I can change the logging on the Exchange server but I have to make sure that the Acronis backup software flushes the logs after a full backup.
I am new to using Acronis so I need some help on how do this without causing a bad unintended consequence.

Hello Joseph,

Thank you for using [[http://www.acronis.com/enterprise/ | Acronis Corporate Products]]

This is a peculiarity of Microsoft Exchange Server design. Microsoft Exchange Server will allow to recover the database to the latest full backup archive only, when Circular Logging is enabled. This is why Acronis Recovery for Microsoft Exchange will not allow to create incremental backups when Circular Logging is enabled. See Microsoft Knowledge Base Article 314605.

Turn off Circular Logging in Microsoft Exchange Server:

- Microsoft Exchange Server 2000, Microsoft Exchange Server 2003: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314605

- Microsoft Exchange Server 2007: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb331968.aspx

Thank you.

I just wanted to confirm. Is there any way to have a backup run that will clear out the email log files as Windows backup will do? It seems like you have pointed out the issue and how to enable or disable circular logging.
