Transaction log backup always runs as Differential

Thread needs solution

I am backing up my SQL databases, Running Full every 12 hours with transactional every 15 minutes. I have the option selected to run Differentials if Transaction not possible.

This is being run on all datanases on the server.

Everytime it runs the transactional backups it runs a differential.
If i turn the differential option off the backups fail.

I am backing up to a network share.

If i create a test job of a single database as a transactional lg backup it runs fine.

Never come across this before, any help greately appreciated

Thanks

Hello Nettscore!

Welcome to our Forum, it's nice to have you with us! I entirely understand your concern and will be glad to assist you!

Unfortunately it's hard to say what exactly went wrong due to the lack of investigation information. Most probably the issue is caused by any other third party backup software. Still this situation requires investigation.

Could you please turn off any backup software on your machine and restart the backup process? Should it still fail, please gather the following information:

1. Acronis Recovery for MS SQL Server Management Console logs from the machine where it is installed:

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Acronis\DatabaseBackup\Logs

2. Acronis Recovery for MS SQL Server Agent logs from the machine where it is installed:

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Acronis\FomatikAgent\Logs

3. MS SQL Server native logs from the machine where Acronis Recovery for MS SQL Server Agent is installed:

C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL\LOG

4. Task Service logs from the machine where Acronis Recovery for MS SQL Server Agent is installed:

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Acronis\TasksService\Logs

5. Windows System Information File from the machine where Acronis Recovery for MS SQL Server Agent is installed.

6. Specify where the backup archive is stored (i.e. NAS device, local drive, FTP etc).

7. Check whether a database can be backed up successfully by means of MS SQL native utilities.

8. Event logs (Start -> Run -> eventvwr.msc)

After that please kindly contact support directly with the information attached. Keep in mind that should there be any procrastination with the reply, you can always specify us the case number. We will do our best to speed up the process.

Should you need anything else or have any further questions - feel free to contact us at your earliest convenience, we will be happy to help you!
