+5 hours to Create master Image, +5 Hours to Deploy

Thread needs solution

Hi,

I've been testing out a trail version of Acronis Snap and Deploy 3 boot CD (version 3470) to create a Master Image of a Windows 7 X64 workstation with about 45GB of used space to an attached USB 2.0 Hard Drive.

I've used Snap and Deploy 1 in the past for XP with great results, but needed a new version to work with our new windows 7 workstations. However, I've been having a lot of trouble creating and deploying deploying a master image of the computer.

I use all the default settings to create the image, yet it takes over 5 hours to write an image of the computer to an external USB 2.0 drive. It completes without any errors that I'm aware of, but it takes a VERY long time to create the image. However, the same thing happens when i deploy the master image using the default settings. It takes over 5 hours to deploy.

I've also tested Acronis Backup and Recovery 10 Workstation's bootCD and it can create a working image of the same workstation using the same external hard drive in less than 30 minutes and deploy in about the same time...

The real reason I want to use Snap and Deploy over Backup and Recovery is that it can create new SIDs for computers, which is important when you image several dozen PCs. Also, it's far simpler and does exactly what I need to do, minus the horrible slow creation and deployment...

Now, is there any known issue with Snap and Deploy 3 that could account for the slowness?

Sincerely,
Chris

Hello Chris,

Welcome to our Forum, we're glad to greet you here! I understand your concern, and will be glad to help.

It looks like the issue is related to the particular hardware problem, like the bad blocks on the USB2.0. The situation requires investigation. In order to localize the issue, could you please do the following?

  1. Create the image to any other suitable location to test the time of creation
  2. Send 1 Gb file to the USB drive to check the speed of transfer

In case the imaging still takes 5 hours, and the USB drive transfers 1Gb file fast, please gather Acronis Info from the problem machine and Acronis Linux Report, then submit a case with the information attached, and let us know its number.

Should you need anything else or have any further questions - feel free to contact us at your earliest convenience, we will be happy to help you!

Thank you!
