HAL & Mass Storage Drivers - Universal Deploy

Thread needs solution

Hi,

We are looking to use the Universal Deploy feature to deploy Win XP to a few different Dell PC's. I understand that the HAL and Mass Storage Drivers need to be on either a network share or optical media for them to be found and installed during the deployment phase to allow the PC's to boot correctly into Windows. What i'm not so sure of is how to find these drivers for the different model PC's to then place on a share?
Can we find them within any folders on the PC's as they are currently installed with XP but we wish to reinstall with Acronis?
What files would we need to look for?

Any help would be greatly appreciated
Thanks!

Hello TSL,

Welcome to our Forum, we're glad to greet you here. Thank you for your question, I will be glad to address it.

You need to obtain drivers for the hard disk drive controller or chipset drivers for the new computer. These drivers are critical for booting the operating system. You can download the drivers for your motherboard on the Vendor's web-site. Please note, if you downloaded the drivers in *.exe, *.cab, *.zip format, you should extract them first. The driver files should have *.inf, *.sys or *.oem extensions.

Should you need anything else or have any further questions - feel free to contact us at your earliest convenience, we will be happy to help you!

Thank you!

As a follow-up to your reply do the drivers for Universal Deploy need to be off the root of the folder you point to or can acorns search through them if they are multiple levels deep in the folder structure?

In other words, do they need to be like this: (where \\servername\drivers is the folder we point to)

\\servername\drivers\driver-a
\\servername\drivers\driver-b
\\servername\drivers\driver-c

or can the be like this:

\\servername\drivers\manuf1\chipset\driver-a
\\servername\drivers\manuf1\disk\driver-b
\\servername\drivers\manuf2\driver-c
\\servername\drivers\manuf3\chipset\driver-d
\\servername\drivers\manuf3\disk\driver-e
etc...

Thanks - Anthony

I have used the latter method mentioned above (drivers within different subfolders) and just tried a deployment task.. The deployment screen itself worked fine but it seems to be taking one hell of a long time on the 'Configuring your system in accordance with deployment specification..' screen. Im guessing this is the screen where it is trying to locate and install the drivers. Wondering whether this is going to work or fail after hours?!

Thanks
