How does data travel from the drive where the image resides to the desination computer?

Thread needs solution

Hi, we've been having problems imaging PCs and starting to suspect it's a network bottleneck issue. Right now, our Acronis sits on a virtual PC that is shared with a few more servers. The images are stored on a NAS that only holds images... nothing else.

I did it that way because I was thinking the server would setup the imaging and monitor the traffic but the data wouldn't have to be filtered through the VM. My boss said he can guarantee the data isn't going directly from the NAS to the server. All the data is being filtered through the VM. I just was hoping the VM server would initialize the connection but all the data wouldn't have to filter through it.

So, if it is or isn't, can someone point me to an article or diagram that shows me how data travels from the server that the image reside on a NAS to the end PC being imaged?
