Lenovo t460s PXE boot failing - Initial Ramdisk Failure

Thread needs solution

I just recently purchased a batch of Lenovo T460s laptops and none of them will image.

After setting boot mode to legacy I can get them to pxe boot and see the snap deploy screen, but as soon as the agent attempts to load I receive message stating unable to load initial ramdisk - enter to continue. When enter is pressed, I see a kernel panic.

Other machines image just fine, it's just these new machines.

What version of SD are you using.  I suspect thes newer sytems have the newer Intel Nics as well and am guessing that 1660 doesn't have the proper drivers for them in linux.  I'll send you a PM with beta 1666 which is the same as 1660 but 1662 brought the updated NIC drivers adn 1666 brought the updated PCIE NVME hard drive drivers too.

I am on 1660 as that is the highest available to me. I will check your PM and install the newer version and see what happens.

YOu may want to remove the PXE component, reboot and reinstall the PXE component directly again - this has helped others when upgrading from 1660 to 1666.

I suspect that you should be booting UEFI PXE boot on these systems as well and not legacy.  Make sure you have UEFI PXE enabled on the deployment server and then check to make sure the systems are using UEFI PXE boot and not legacy pxe boot.
