Remote Booting Without WOL Proxy

I am trying to deploy images over to machines on a different subnet, but installing a WOL Proxy on each subnet is not an option. I read that I should be able to do manual or event driven deployments to machines in other subnets without the WOL proxy. Is this correct? Thus far, I have been unable to get the remote computer to boot when attempting to initiate a manual deploy.
