Snap Deploy 5 Across Subnets

Thread needs solution

Performing initial testing of Snap Deploy and it is a really solid product. I have one question that I hope someone can answer. Going forward with this product all hinges on the simple fact that the documentation states you have to have a deployment server installed on each subnet that you want to image too. Is there no way to image across subnets without this setup? I don't see how large organizations see this as acceptable. We have sites with dozens of subnets and installing a deployment server to each one isn't feasible. Just looking for confirmation I guess. Most of the big boys in the imaging game don't have to deal with something like this.

Quick description of the setup; I have DHCP and PXE configured with IP helpers (workstation is in a separate subnet than the deploy server). The workstation boots up into PXE fine and loads the Acronis Agent. It shows its state as “ready” in the console. When I try to deploy a task, it immediately changes the results to “Failed to Start”. I’ve tried Multicast and Unicast.

In the past we have had problems with having two nics on the server. Only works if we disable one so we cant work with both subnets. I agree that this should be fixed.

I'm not sure what your are referencing, we don't have a problem with two nics. I assume you are talking about a dual homed server, but that is not how we would setup a enterprise environment. I just wanted it to work across subnets without having to install a component on each subnet.

Hello, I've had the same similar issue. First let me start by answering to your questions, yes it is possible to deploy on different segments but you have to be ready to invest a bid deal of amount of time to get this to work, believe me that was my case. I'm a newbie to Acronis Snap Deploy 5 and my server configuration on the Network aspect was a total fiasco when I contacted Acronis Support as not even one member of the Acronis Support was able to help me to solve the problem to do a network remote install of the Acronis Agent to machines on different subnets (we have several in our organization). Long story short I was able to get this issue solved by my self and yet again I'm experiencing Multicast Deployment issues with another case open, and guess what? No answers to my questions thus by far. In regards to dual NIC, I do have two NICs on my Server but one is definitely disable in BIOS and only one is configured to see all the VLANS besides where this server resides. I manage to have the server to talk to other subnets but now my issue is the server is only deploying via Unicast successfully but when deploying Multicast it Fails each time.

 Hello,

The machines in another subnets can be deployed using PXE server that is installed in the same subnet. For more information please refer to User Guide http://www.acronis.com/en-us/support/documentation/ASD5/index.html#16432.html

Also, you can contact our support team.

Best regards.

AlexanderK,

I realizes it will work if you install the Proxy component in each subnet, exactly what my question states we will not be doing as it is not feasible to install it on all our subnets. Ghost manages this without extra components being installed on all subnets as well as SCCM. Again, can you image across subnets without additional components being installed in each subnet?

Hello, Slade

There is no such functionality at the moment.
