Snap Deploy halting on Samsung N130 netbook

Thread needs solution

Hi,
I provide support to three schools in two of them are already users of Snap Deploy and the third may also become a user in the near future. These schools are planning to order Samsung N130 netbooks this month and to use Acronis Snap Deploy to image them.

On Tuesday this week I was given a sample N130 for evaluation and testing purposes. Upon booting up with Snap Deploy the software halted and would not run due to what looked like a hardware issue. I then searched on the Internet and found other users with exactly the same problem. I did not have time to take a screen shot photo at the time but I see others have done this for you already.

I checked the download section of your website and found the last release of Snap Deploy was dated October 2009 which would appear to pre-date the netbook in question.

Please advise what steps can be taken to resolve this issue, or do we simply have to abandon the first choice of netbook and look at Asus or Lenovo alternatives? Do you have a list of netbooks that are compatible with Snap Deploy. This problem did not arise with the previous Samsung NC10 model.

Thanks,

John

Hello John!

Thank you for joining us on Forum!

I have carefully checked our internal resources and didn't find any mention that we have issues with Samsung hardware. Unfortunately due to the lack of information it is hard to say what was the cause of the issue, so this situation requires investigation.

First of all let's try updating the product (both PXE and Bootable Media). I'm going to send you the instructions via PM, please follo wthem and let me know the result.

Should the issue persist please obtain the following information:

  1. Do you use bootable media or PXE?
  2. What exactly happens on the target machine? (it would be nice to have a shot)
  3. Should you use Bootable Media - Acronis Linux Report
  4. Should you use PXE - Wireshark output.

After that please kindly contact support directly with the information attached or send this information to me. Should you decide to contact support, please keep in mind that should there be any procrastination with the reply, you can always specify us the case number. We will do our best to speed up the process.

Should you need anything else or have any further questions - feel free to contact us at your earliest convenience, we will be happy to help you!

Thank you!

Hi Yana,

Thanks for your help. I carried out the following as suggested in your message;

1. Downloaded and decompressed bootwiz.sys, kernel.dat and ramdisk.dat files from the archives. (To update Bootable Rescue media and PXE Server).

2. Replaced bootwiz.sys, kernel.dat and ramdisk.dat files in all of the following directories with the downloaded files:

\Program Files\Common Files\Acronis\OSDDemon

\Program Files\Common Files\Acronis\ImageCreator

\Program Files\Common Files\Acronis\OSDStandAlone

3. Also replace bootwiz.sys from the downloaded archives in:

C:\Program Files\Common Files\Acronis\MediaBuilder

4. Reloaded Acronis Snap Deploy Agent and Master Image Creator components at the Acronis PXE Server. To then be able to boot the updated version of these components from PXE.

After carrying out these changes Snap Deploy still does not run on the sample N130, the screen results are now;

‘Unable to load ramdisk. Press to proceed’ – If you press enter the following error message is shown: ‘UFS: Unable to mount root fs on unknown-block (I, 0)’

We only use PXE server for imaging at present.

Here are two other threads with similar subjects from this forum; 8023: Samsung N130 NIC Support, 7942: Can't boot from Acronis Snap Deploy.

Please advise what to do now!

Hi Yana,

An update on this - Acronis Support provided new files to install and this has resolved the problem. I can now deploy images to the Samsung N130 netbook without problem. .

John Haslip
