SnapDeploy Problems?

Thread needs solution

Hello All,
We are currently assessing whether we can use the Altiris SnapDeploy product for distribution of our Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 Sys Prepped images to our Ships. We cannot use any smart solution such as PXE server, centralised image distribution etc etc as our Ships are disconnected and it may well be required for a Ship to rebuild a server or workstation that has failed without our local assistance.
Therefore we have a low tech solution which has stood us well with Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 in that we use DVD's which have the Acronis TIB image files on the DVD, we then automate the deployment of the image and automate the configuration of the image post deployment, all the automation is performed through scripts (i.e. VB Script) the purpose of the Acronis product is just to deploy the TIB file (no Universal Restore etc ). We have been testing the use of the SnapDeploy command line tool within a Windows PE environment (3.0) to automate the deployment and configuration of our computers. It works great! For workstations (Dell Optiplex 780).....
It all seems to fall down though when attempting to deploy a image to the servers we will have on the Ships (Dell PE T410). The first problem is that the Acronis Rescue CD (SnapDeploy 3 Build 3470) we have generated for creating a master image (and to allow for manual restore of images if required on a Ship) does not recognise the disks on the T410, when running the Rescue CD the message is displayed that the disks detected are not supported. How is it the Perc 6i controller which is a specific product to one of if not the leading supplier of server hardware is not supported in a SnapDeploy rescue CD?
Therefore to work around this I managed to capture a master image to a USB HDD attached to the server by using the SnapDeploy command line tool within the Windows PE 3.0 environment we have on our automation DVD, but when it comes to deploying the image to the same server whilst we can write to the hard disks within Windows PE the SnapDeploy command line tool fails to start the image deployment process of with the error ‘failed to lock disk 1’.
Could anybody help as we are so close to a complete solution for automating the installation and configuration of Windows 7 and 2008 using the one single product…..

Thanks.

Gary Hall.
