Universal deploy questions

Thread needs solution

Hi,
I've always used deployment licenses, but now that Universal deploy uses the same licenses I decided to give it a try. The first time I deployed with Universal, I set it to look for drivers on removable media. I had the drivers extracted on a USB stick connected to the deployment target system. Unfortunately, I didn't have the USB 3.0 support turned off at the BIOS level and the system didn't recognize the USB stick, so no drivers were installed. I disabled USB 3.0 in the BIOS and deployed again, this time the system was able to see the USB drive and loaded a couple of drivers (but not most of them).

1) Obviously I'm missing something in the driver setup for Universal Deploy. How do you do this?

The machine is a Dell Latitude E7450. I downloaded the OS deployment Windows CAB file from Dell and extracted the contents, placing the (extracted) folder on the USB drive. I can see and browse that USB drive from the deployed-to system but it doesn't look like any of the drivers were installed. I've got about 20 exclamation points in Device Manager.

2) Is there a way to get the 'lost' licenses back? In general, is there a way to get 'testing' licenses for deployment setups? I've run into this before and just called it a loss (deploy licenses aren't really expensive), but I'd like to know if there is some path to recovering a wasted license? I would like to test a few deployment strategies and figure out what I'm doing wrong, but am wasting a license each time I try.

Thanks
-Derek

Hi all,

Well scratch my first post, I'm re-reading the docs looking for more information and I see that Universal Deploy is really only intended for working with different processor/chipsets. The rest of the drivers are 'plug and play'... hah. Is there a way to make deployment easier in regards to driver installation? This is a big time-killer for us, going through all of the system's various devices and installing drivers for each one.

Thanks,
-Derek
