Universal Deploy Windows Activation Q

Thread needs solution

I have created an image deployed it successfully, now it's asking me to activate windows and won't let me log in without activation code? It's an XP image that I have applied on a windows 7 machine; therefore, my license key is not working? am I at a dead-end, since I can't legaly purchase an XP PRO key anymore?

I had never seen an imaging software require such a thing, is that normal? What's my way out?

It's not the imaging software that requires activation, it's windows itself.
Ways out: 1) GGK 2) Downgrade from W7 may be possible if it is W7 Pro and some other conditions are met.

It stands for Get Genuine Kit.

thank you, I already googled it)) you can still get that for XP?

Hi Vadim and dev-anon!

Thank you for opening the thread regarding this question and many thanks to dev-anon for his kind assistance!

I just wanted to add that usually in such cases we advise to contact MS Support directly. They're familiar with such type of issues, and will be able to help you with Windows Activation.

The reason why Windows asked for the license key is also related to Microsoft way of protecting Windows: they assign the license to some particular hardware and check it usually on StartUp. Should it be changed - Windows will ask for activation.

Should you need anything else or have any further questions - feel free to contact us at your earliest convenience, we will be happy to help you!

Thank you!

Hi, I had a similar problem - using Acronis Universal Restore, to restore image from old laptop to a new laptop. After restore, the new laptop asks to activate Windows. I can see an Installation ID, but it asks for a Confirmation ID, which I do not have. The Windows XP Professional from my old laptop came w/ the laptop. I called MS Support, and they have no answers for me. I got sent from one department to the next. They asked me for the Installation ID, and the Product Key (which I found on the underside of my old laptop), however I still have no confirmation ID. MS was not useful, and I cannot use my new laptop with the supposed restore on it. I am happy to pay for a confirmation ID just to get my restored image up & running. Please advise.
