Windows 7 issues

Thread needs solution

after reading through numerous complaints I still cannot find a resolution. I imaged all the partitions from the master windows 7 pc, deployed all the partition, at some point while it still says 26 minutes left it reboots, the PXE server's logs report no errors and success. The slave machine with the deployed image doesn't boot (what a surprise!!!) offers to repair itself, that doesn't work, bootrec.exe commands all report sucess from the command promt repair options, except for Bootrec.exe /RebuildBcd which reports a 0 (would that mean it thinks there isn't any installation of Win7?)

Happens over and over and over, sad.

i noticed a lot of discrepancies (which seem to be bugs) for example - if you set up a deployment task and choose not to use universal restore it still shows as it is about to use it.

I have disabled the deployment task, and apply the template from the PXE server now, everything works just find, but once you try to boot Win7 it's just unbootable, does anyone have a successful sequence of imaging and deploying win7 image step by step?

I also tried not to stretch the image to a bigger hard drive thinking that may be it's corrupting partitions during deploy, but to no avail.

 Hello Vadim, hello Partick,

Thank you for opening this thread. I am glad to assist you with this issue.

Patrick, I am glad to hear you could find a suitable solution for you. If you will want to continue the investigation, don't hesitate to contact our Support Team and submit the issue description in detail.

Vadim, the description you provided for the issue does not contain many details and it is hard to distinguish an error in settings or look for a known problem with such a behavior. Please collect the AcronisInfo from the machine with the Deploy Server. It will contain the Deploy Server log that will show at which moment the deployment operation fails or will even contain the error message itself.

Additionally, please provide information on the source and target hardware:

  • Is it a BIOS- or UEFI-based hardware?
  • Can you successfully deploy the image with the Acronis Bootable Media?
  • Have you checked the target hard drives for errors?

If the local deployment fails as in case with Deployment Template from PXE Server, please provide the photo of the error message during system boot.

Please let me know if there is any additional information that could be useful for investigation, and don't hesitate to ask additional questions.

Thank you.

1) Bios
2) yes
3) yes, no errors

so, the many issues I had -
1) speed of deploy, resolved by switching to unicast (had a 1000 time speed increase - insane if you ask me)
2) before I deploy an image I always use some type of soft to gather all the drivers from the machine
3) in spite of them telling us how win7 can be deployed to any platform, not really so, I had told the SaD 4.0 to look for the drivers in a dedicated folder
4) i had used universal deploy option (can someone please specify if it is needed with Win7 for dissimilar hardware?)

after that everything had worked, I think the drivers did the trick, otherwise the system was cycling and rebooting. It occurs to me what would be good is to have an article on how to image and deploy win 7 and now win 8 for dissimilar hardware, step by step, would really help. I had spent 1,5 days trying different combinations of options and reading through the forums to figure it all out.

 Hello Vadim,

Thank you for the information and the description of the solution you've found.

The statement that Windows 7 can be deployed to any platform is being misused when you are talking about the image deployment. Installation of Windows 7 would usually not require additional drivers as it already contains most of them. But as soon as you have installed the system, it has implemented disk drivers into HAL. So if you try to deploy the image to dissimilar hardware, the drivers specified in the HAL will be wrong and will result into the unbootable system. This is why you always have to use Universal Deploy when deploying to dissimilar hardware. And it is true for all operating systems including Windows 7 and Windows 8. Here you can read more about the purpose and technology of [[Acronis Universal Restore]].

Regarding the statement above, the is no difference in deploying Windows 7 or any other Windows or Linux OS, this is why it is thought unreasonable creating a separate guide just for Windows 7. Just keep in mind that every time you deploy to dissimilar hardware, you have to use Acronis Universal Deploy.

This online topic will also be useful to quickly define the issue with bootability of a deployed OS: bootability troubleshooting.

Regarding the second problem with deployment speed I would ask you to provide details on the settings of both deployments and of the network. Performance issues always require a considerable amount of data to be analyzed if it cannot be reproduced, so I would recommend to submit a support case for that issue. Knowing at least the settings of the deployment and of the network I could check if the issue is reproducible or already known.

Let me know if you have additional questions.

Thank you.

Dmitriy, I appreciate your help, but I am aware of all these articles and have no time to start a support case. As for Win7 it has two partitions that must be imaged, in my opinion, it's an important fact to state that somewhere
