Working with Linux Images

Thread needs solution

I'm looking at using Snap Deploy but I'm running into a issue with linux computers

How can I get it so that it updates the MBR? so that it will boot off the HD?

Thoughts?

Ideas?

Let me know

Thanks,
Sean

Hello Sean,

Snap Deploy works with linux machines in sector by sector mode.
So it basically copies your machine's HDD from the 1st sector to the last one and deploys it to the 1st sector.
So the deployed machine will have the same MBR as the old machine. Any post deployment operations are not available here.
If you have some problems with that please give me some additional information on what is happening.

I've tried 4 different computers to copy from/to and no matter what it doesn't grab GRUB. I always get. Please insert boot disk.

Unless there is something wrong I am doing when making a image of linux computer. When I loaded up the snap it gave me an option to select sda and the swap drive. Nothing else. When making a image.

I have 2 different Linux systems that we use. Both didn't work. If one didn't work, that wouldn't be a game stopper, but right now neither of them work.

I emailed support and they gave me this. http://www.acronis.com/support/documentation/ASD4/index.html#23274.html but still doesn't work automatically. I don't want to have work with an external source of putting in a usb stick with linux on it and do update-grub /dev/sda1. When our current software that we are using (Clonezilla) does this automatically.

Thoughts ideas?

Sean

I attached a shell script in a zip archive here.
Please run it on both linux machines and attach its output.
This is a system info script that will gather information about your linux machines.
Also please attach Acronis Info http://download.acronis.com/support/AcronisInfo.exe from the deploy server so I could check the logs.
I could not find any Support Ticket created for you so you can contact support and send them this forum thread as reference and ask them to forward your request to me.
