Is 17 days too long to backup my entire computer to thr cloud?

Thread needs solution

Folks:  I purchased Acronis True Image 2016 without the cloud backup.  A month later I decided I really needed that feature.  Bought same, installation required me to delete the installed version. Much toing and froeing followed and the product appeared to be installed. I was prompted to dowload a newer version. Download took over an hour.  Our WI Fi connection seems OK we watch Netflix.

Any suggestions would be appreciated

Lloyd, what are you ISP download and upload speeds, and what else is happening on your network, plus how are you connecting while doing the upload to the Cloud?

All of these questions can shed light on what is achievable for your Cloud upload time.

Upload speeds are very often significantly different to download speeds, for example, I have a 70MB/s download speed with my own ISP but my upload speed is restricted to max 10MB/s.

If you are also downloading from Netflix at the same time, this can have an impact on your network and therefore on your Cloud upload too.

My initial Cloud full backup took 8 days for 750 GB. I'm on Comcast. Can't find uplaod/download speeds on thier website. They're hiding it.

Hi    I figured some of that out; did some speed tests and got dismal up load results.

one thing I'll try is connecting to my modem wita a cable...

Thanks for the advice though.    Lloyd

US ISP's are gutting us on upload in most cases.  Not only are we throttled way back on speed, but often times on the amount we can upload too.  Like Steve, I have COMI-CAST and get about 85Mbps down and should be getting 10 up, but really only get about 5.5-6 up on average.  Judd, use speedtest.net and focus on the upload, not the download.  You want to also pick Boston as the test site as I believe that is the primary location.  However, looks like they've added a few more

Yeah, after posting I went to several speed testing sites and my upload speed was pretty cosistantly 11-12 Mbps. While doing the full backup Acronis was usually indicating 3-4 Mbps. I figured I was getting throttled by Comcast. Actually I was sort of impressed that the backup took 8 days and finally completed OK.  If I switch Acronis data centers, will I have to do a full backup again?

Not sure on that one - I have a feeling that you would have to upload again though as I don't believe that there is redundancy between the different data centers.  But, as there is no insight for the Acronis infrastructure and internal workings of the company for the MVP's (we're not employees, just volunteers in the forum) you'd have to check with techical support for a more official response.

Hi:  It's Lloyd again. I'm reverting back to backing up on an attached HDD. I attempted to upgrade my wireless plan and was advised that the only one available where I am located has an upload speed of "up to 2 Mbps"  (or 2000 Kbps)  They are serious about the "up to"   ;B

Cleverbridge has refunded me for the cloud backup.  I'm not sure If I need to re-install the version of Acronis I previously purchased; I'll sort that out.

I'm currently at a summer cottage: My plan at home is supposed to support uploads of "up to 10 Mbps"  I'll run some speed tests and then re-consider.

Question: If I successfully upload once will following uploads be incremental?

Again thanks for all the support...   Lloyd

Hi Lloyd,

Technically yes, but as you've cancelled your subscription, if you don't renew within 30 days, anything you have in the Cloud now will be deleted.  The cloud backups are basically the cloud version of nonstop backup on the PC side so it's one full and then delta changes for backups from that point on.  If you renewed under the same account, then you "should" still have access to all backups in the cloud and be able to reconfigure the backup again so that it picks up where it left off.

Hi:  It's Lloyd again:

Cleverbridige refunded me for the Cloud Backup option; I looked in my "Download" folder for the original version of True Image. It installed smoothly. I attempted an entire PC backup a couple of times with strange results, very small files on the attached drive. Had better luck after I figured out how to do a "new" backup. I deleted the two small files    Ran overnight and created a file that is a large fraction of the size of  the used space on my C: drive,  378  vs 326 GB.  These sizes are different than displayed on the attached screenshot.

Question: Is there a way to verify that the backup worked?  I thought I'd start to restore some files and just look to see if there was a list offered.

I got an error message "cannot find version three"   Is that because I deleted the two files I created before I found out how to do a new backup?

I browsed to the file got a "failed to open item F:\ Entire PC.....    I hacked around a bit and got the screen shown on the bottom of the screenshot and attempted to restore files, nothing really happened for a while so I shut it down. Should I be able to restore individual files from an "Entire PC" backup.

Thanks in advance for your usual excellent support...       Lloyd

Lloyd,

Your backup file size looks correct.  Compression is used to create them at an approximate 30% reduction in total size.

As for your error, it is because you deleted the 2 files you mentioned.  Simply select ignore at each error message until you see no more and continue on.
