4.5 Million Log Files in one folder?

Thread needs solution

Looking at a problem that I'll post separately, I was looking for log files so maybe I could see what's happening when. Anyhow, I found the folder C:\Program Data\Acronis\TrueImageHome\Logs

This folder was created on July 5 2014 and it has 4,923,000+ files in it, going back to the creation date of the folder and as recent as today. No idea how much space it's using but most of the files seem to be below 500 bytes. This despite the fact that i ran the Acronis Cleanup tool just a couple weeks ago to uninstall ATI 2017 that had been installed over 2016 and was borked (I since decided to wait on the 2017 upgrade and got a refund, so I just re-installed 2016). Anyway my understanding was that the cleanup tool would remove all traces of the program?

So the question is, can I delete all these files or are a certain number of them needed? If that's the case can I delete some? Something is causing an inordinate delay sometimes and I wonder if that might be it. At any rate I can see why I need all these old files. I don't want to have to re-install right now tho' if I can help it.

Thanks!

You probably do not need them. The easiest way to remove them would be to use the MVP Log Viewer - Version 1.11. Once installed, run the app and select File then Log file cleanup. You can select the number of days log files that are to be retained. The number of days works on date last modified, not creation date.

PS You may need to use "run as administrator" for it to work properly.

Bill, see my comments in the MVP Log Viewer topic thread https://forum.acronis.com/forum/128710#comment-406320 to you on this issue.

Ok, now I know how to remove the logfiles. But how do I prevent them from being created? Seems they grow minute by minute on my disk and I dont want to run a tool once a day just to get rid of them :-)

Peter, welcome to these user forums.

There is no way to prevent the logfiles from being created but you can minimise the number of these that exist on your system.  The MVP Log Viewer provides one such method, but the alternative is to do a clean install whenever you are about to install a new version of the product, so that you don't start with logs from the previous product version.

Hi Steve,

thanks for the welcome and for your advice. A clean re-install (and upgrade to version 2017) solved the issue. Great relief :-)

Peter, thanks for the feedback, glad to hear the clean install worked well for you.

Bill, Peter, if you are not using features like Synchronization, Online Dashboard, Nonstop backup, backup from mobile device to PC via Wi-Fi (WLAN), Active Protection (Anti-Ransomware), then you can simply disable all Acronis services except "Acronis Scheduler2 Service" - it is required at all times, even for manually started backups.

Open Start menu, type services.msc, press Enter, locate Acronis services on the right half of the window, double-click each of them, select "Disabled" from "Startup type", click Apply, then Stop, then OK.

This will reduce the impact of the software on system performance while keeping the core functionality (backups&restoration) intact.
