Acronic Loader is hanging & drive letter of external HDD not found
Hi,
My system is Win 8.1
1TB HDD
Backup Device is WD 1TB via USB
___________
I did a full image backup in early August and need to restore is all (after a few Windows files got corrupt).
This backup was done with TrueImage 2015. I have updated to TrueImage 2016, although I don't think my issues are TrueImage version related.
If I attempt a System Restore from the TrueImage Windows interface, I see my backup source, on my External HDD (defined as G;/ ). I see my main HDD as C:/.
When I initiate the Restore, Acronis reboots, and I see "Acronis Loader loading... and at that point the system hangs. I have let the flashing cursor blink for over 30 minutes...
So the Restore fails and I have to reboot back to Windows.
If I use the Acronis Recovery Disk, it all loads to the TrueImage screen, but my External HDD ((backup source G:/) has now been designated as my C:/ Drive. I can see the contents of the External HDD, with .tib, , but since TrueImage thinks it is my C:/ drive...will not let me Restore it to my real HDD C:/drive.
I do a "search for backups", yet it still identifies my External HDD (G:/) as C:/ ??
I'm rather frustrated...can someone please help.
Thanks,
John

When performing a restore from the TI Recovery CD, you must ignore the drive letter as the letters that you see are assigned by Linux and not Windows. Your key to the correct drive is to be observant as to the drive characteristics and look at the actual volume name you have assigned to your Windows C drive.
Match the restore name to the target name.
For example, my Windows DRive C has a volume name of Win7Pro_C.
So when I want C restored,
I choose the data to be restored to be Win7Pro_C(from the backup)br />
and I choose the target to be Win7Pro_C (on the existing system disk)
Look at my signature link 3 below and inside that link, look at item 3 which is an example of restore a backup of C overrtop the existing C.

Hi,
I did a Recovery from the Acronis TI boot disk and located my External HDD.
I then went through the steps to recover my C:/ Drive which had a system restore of my system files (windows) and files on C:/.
But when I restored everything from my External HDD, I lost my 2nd partition that was originally designated as my d:/ drive and it's files.
I am not a techy guy...so when Acronis asked for my Primary drive and then my primary partition and then my MBR??? I got lost. I just selected boxes that I thought would work (I'm used to Acronis version 12 & 13 where I just said "restore it all".I don't know what MMR is or how to set my D:/drive partition...??)
So I'd like to try it all again, but can someone please walk me through the steps so that I end up with a C:/drive as my primary drive AND a partition to reload files I had on my D:? drive partition.
Sorry for my confusion...Thanks
John
