Acronis 16 won't add backups
Hello,
I have backups which I'm trying to add to my Acronis 2016, but nothing happens. I've tried using an Acronis 2017 trial but it's just the same, nothing happens.
Am I being two impatient? Do they take a long time to 'build'? I get no error messages and the backups open fine in explorer. I've tried the full (first), second and third itterations. Different backups. It makes no difference, nothing happens.
I have been able to add backups before. They are Acronis backups I'm trying to add that were made on this PC.
The backups are around 140Gb so I'd rather not start again.
Any help would be much appreciated. I'm using Windows 10, upgraded from Windows 7.
Also I've a huge list of backups showing - is there any way of tidying these into folders?
Thanks,
Regards,
Dazzer

Thanks for info. The backups were made either with True Image 2015 or 2016, probably the latter.
Process:
Firstly I open True Image as administrator.
I then choose add existing back up at the bottom.
I then navigate to the folder wthat contains the backups.
I then highlight the backup I wish to add (in this case the full one).
I then click add.
The 'add' popup then closes.
Nothing is added.
I have tried clicking the 'name' box, but that's made no difference.
Should the file name come up in the path box? Only the path shows.
I hope I am missing a step, but it doesn't appear an obvious one.
Your help's much appreciated,
Dazzer

Dazzer, can you provide some screen shots of your existing tasks in the main GUI and of your backup files that you are adding. I am wondering if these files have already been added but you are perhaps not recognising them as being so?
With backup version chains of files, you only need to add just one file from the version chain to add the whole chain of files where you would only see the one task named in the GUI even though that might represent a large number of individual files all based on the same name, i.e. Task name = My Backup but in File Explorer you could have 10 to 100 files based on this, such as My Backup_full_b1_s1_v1.tib, My Backup_inc_b1_s2_v1.tib etc
See the ATIH 2017 User Guide: Backup file naming (which is the same for 2015 and later versions)
Backup file naming
A backup file name has the following attributes:
- Backup name
- Backup method (full, inc, diff: full, incremental, differential)
- Number of backup chain (in the form of b#)
- Number of backup version (in the form of s#)
- Number of volume (in the form of v#)
For example this attribute changes when you split a backup into several files. Refer to Backup splitting for details.
Thus a backup name may look the following way:
- my_documents_full_b1_s1_v1.tib
- my_documents_full_b2_s1_v1.tib
- my_documents_inc_b2_s2_v1.tib
- my_documents_inc_b2_s3_v1.tib
If you are creating a new backup, and there is already a file with the same name, the program does not delete the old file, but adds to the new file the "-number" suffix, for example, my_documents_inc_b2_s2_v1-2.tib.

Also, if the backup name is not unique, and a backup is already being used with the same name, the import will not work. The backups in the console need to each have unique names. So, if you had an old backup called "MyBackups" and then started fresh and created a new backup called "MyBackups", then you won't be able to import the old backups into the console because the name is already in use. You can still use the backups with offline recovery media though.
More info on the existing backup names with screenshots (what's showin in Windows file explorer and what's in the Acronis console now) would help.

Hello again,
I have attached screen grabs of the relevant computer backups (XPS) though none are the actual ones I'm hoping to add.
Also a screen grab of the ones I have tried to add.
There are over 100 backups "on this computer" and another 100 and more "others" so not grabbed full list.
Thanks,
Dazzer

Dazzer, thanks for the screen shots - you certainly do have a lot of backups on your system, and it makes me wonder whether you are hitting a limit with the number that ATIH will allow in the task list display?
I would recommend using the option for free live chat support and open a Support Case for this issue with Acronis and see what their stance is on this problem?

I also see many duplicate names with (1) - I think there may be issues with using the same names - I know it can be a factor when trying to double click older backups to navigate them when there is a newer backup in the console with the same name. Hopefutlly technical support can provide some more information directly.
On a personal note, this is another one of the reasons I don't like the autoscanning/import of found backups on an attached drive... which the process is still a mystery to me... as it doesn't always find all of them and sometimes finds others at random times and older backups could easily have the same name as current ones. I've submitted feedback a few times to request that the user has the ability to choose not to automatically add backups and/or to only scan certain locations. It stinks if you have a lot of backups and end up with 100+ of them in the console that you have not choice of preventing and then have to go back and manually remove each one.
