Acronis Backup Size Question

Thread needs solution

This is just a general question I have.

Why is the backup of my system so large? My entire C drive is 1.81TB and after I install all my applications and adjust settings I’m left with 1.69TB free.

I made system backup to my external USB drive and the backup is 1.37TB, why is it so large?

Should it not just back up the space I’ve used?

Sheldon, sorry but we will need more information to understand why your backup looks to be so large?

Please download the MVP Log Viewer tool from the Community tools link in my signature and share the log file for your backup task with us so that we can see what options you are using and any messages the task is posting in the log?

You should ensure that you have not selected to use Sector-by-Sector mode for your backup task as this will result in a much larger backup size.

Also, when using the Entire PC option as the backup source, this can include other drives connected to your computer.  I would recommend clicking on the Source 'Entire PC' button and then on Disks & Partitions to see what else may be being included in the backup source data?

Thanks for getting back to me on this matter.

I did the same procedure in this video to backup my entire PC.

I do however have two other internal drives in my PC but i'll get the log files once I get home from work.

I went into Option/Advanced before I tried another backup and "Back up unallocated space" was checked, I unchecked it so it's grey, now my back up is much smaller 79.3GB. This should be the default settings,

Thanks for your help

To my understanding, Backup unallocated space is defaulted to being deselected - I have never seen this on for any of my backup tasks.
