Acronis failing to cleanup old backups

Thread needs solution

I've setup Acronis on multiple PCs and they've all performed the automatic cleanup of old backups correctly. I set the total size limit. On my PC though this continually fails. The Disk currently has approx 150GB free, Acrons is using 630GB in total across about 6 full chains. I've set the cleanup limit to 500GB but it ignores this and gives me the 'Target Drive is Running out of space' error. If I set it to a limit of just 400GB it still does no cleanup and fails. Each full backup is less than 90GB. I've tried respecifying the source and target in the job but it doesn't help. I even tried setting the version chain limit to 4 instead but it still fails to cleanup.

Can anyone tell me what might have gone wrong here?

Paul, it is difficult to advise what the issue may be here for this one particular PC if you have this setup and working fine on the others you have.

It is possible that there is a problem with the Acronis Database where the version history for your backups are stored - you could try doing a Validate for your backup tasks and see if that throws up any errors.

One of the issues with editing existing tasks is that it can reset the version chain count and result in more incremental / differential backups being created in the chains.

Of the automatic cleanup rules, I have personally found that the 'Retain no more than X recent version chains' works best for my systems, but all of the available methods should work and be reliable.
