Acronis interface getting worse release by release.

Thread needs solution

The 2016 interface has made the restore function obscure meaning that I have to use Windows explorer for restore.  I also believe that earlier versions handled the problem when Windows decided to play musical drive letters on the external drives for the backup files.  All I want or need is the following:

1.  A program that will allow me to manually do both full and either incremental or differential backups of my system drive and selected files from my external drives with NO scheduled backups.  Acronis with a somewhat confusing interface allows this.

2.  The parameters for the backup must be stored not only in the backup database but with the first full backup and if change is allowed (I can see that being extremely problematic) with the incremental.

3.  The drive letter for the backup stored in the backup database must be changeable.

4.  If a backup is deleted from the backup database, the ability to restore the backup information to the database must be there including the ability to reflect change in the drive letter of the location.

5.  If there are no scheduled backups (in my case I am backing up to portable drives that I cycle through my safe deposit box), then there should be no need to have ANY background tasks running.  Using the tlb from Windows Explorer (I think it is File Explorer in Windows 10) can be done by launching Acronis in the Open With function.

6.  The restore option should be separate from the backup option.

I have used Acronis backups (and for a couple of years Acronis Backup and Security) for at least 8 years and maybe more.  My frustrations with the current version even though I have used it to recover files last year from the most recent crash are leading me to look at other options.  I tried Paragon in 2014 but didn't like the fact their full disk backup couldn't be treated in the same way their file backups could.

Hi Clark, I guess that the ATI 2016 GUI interface is a matter of personal choice / preference.  I agree that it differs from earlier versions of ATI but in some ways, it also makes the choices simpler for the more non-technical users of this product.  For each backup listed in the main ATI panel, there is a choice of two buttons, one for Recover disks, the second for Recover files - as simple as that rather than having to navigate through different menus to get to a Recovery panel.

If you want to put your suggestions for changes to the interface in ATI, then you should use the Feedback options within the product as this is just a user forum and not a direct conduit into the Acronis software development team.

By all means use the Feedback feature of the product to express your concerns.  You are not alone in not liking the GUI or as some say the dumbed down interface.
