Acronis Recovery Disk can't see my hard drive

Thread needs solution

I have a brand new Dell Xps15 and to my surprise, the TI 2016 recovery disk can't see my hard drive.  For all my PCs, I will typically use the recovery disk to create a full image of the disk and save it to my NAS.  I've read little bit abou needing to possibly create a WinPE recovery disk?  I'm not that familiar with this and from what I've read so far, I'm not confident it will solve the problem.  Can any give me some guidance on this?  I'm afraid to strat loding up this new PC with apps and files unless I'm confident I can recover in the event of a hard rive failure.  My XPS15 has a 512GB SSD and some sort of Intel Radid Storage technology.

Thanks

Perry, I would recommend going ahead and creating the WinPE Recovery Media for your new Dell XPS15 computer, the benefits of doing so are that WinPE will include the drivers needed to 'see' your internal SSD drive plus if necessary you can add any extra drivers if needed.

The process of creating the WinPE media is straight forward, and if you do not already have the Windows ADK will offer you a download link to get it.  The only caveat I would offer is that you do not need to install the whole ADK but only the WinPE components (which can make a difference of 2GB or more).

Once you have the ability to create the WinPE media, there is the options of creating the media in different ways, i.e. to create an ISO or WIM image, to create optical or USB media.  I have used the WIM media to add the WinPE Recovery Media to my Windows Boot Menu, so that I can choose it at startup rather than having to boot from a CD or DVD.  This is made easy by using the free EasyBCD utility to add the WIM media.  You will still need to create separate media to use in the event of a total drive failure whereas the boot option is ideal for restoring back to a recovery point in the event of a virus infection or other issue.

Intel Rapid Storage Tecnology is not supported by True Image default Recovery Media.

Follow Steves advice on creating a WinPE disk.  You may find that the application will show 2 drives however depending on how the Intel solution is implemented.

Your best bet here is to first create an image of the drive(s) and then attempt to restore that image to prove it will work.  That may prove to be something you cannot do.

True Image does not support Hybrid drives either but the Intel solution is not the same as it uses a separate drive for cache purposes to increase performance.

Thanks for everyone's replies, but I have found a free solution, Macrium, that works without going through all the trouble of building a customer WinPE recovery disk.

Actually, Macrium is using WinPE :)  Glad it's a viable solution for you though.
