Acronis TI 2016 build update fails.

Thread needs solution

I have 4 licenses for my computers, and one of them fails on my Dell laptop. Build 6569 is currently installed with a notice that a new build update is available. Build 6595 tries to install but fails with no error messages. Is there a way to get this update installed?

Not sure why this should happen. You could try a repair installation of the currently installed version. If that works, then try installing the new version again - it may be best to download the installer from you Acronis account rather than doing the in-app update.

I have actually tried that. The update always fails.

Is there any way I could download the installation file for ATI 2016 with the update already in? Then I could try uninstalling ATI 2016 from my computer, and try installing it fresh as a new installation?

Yes, go into your account and under ATI 2016 click on downloads. Make sure that the button on the right is set to 'full installer'. I suspect you will also need to run Acronis cleanup utility. Doing so will result in loss of all your backup task settings. The new insallation will find all you backups, but may not have the correct settings. This is because the full settings are in an xml file not the backup *.tib file. I cannot remember where it is located at the moment. You can copy it to somewhere safe before running the cleanup utility. You may need to stop all Acronis services first.

Hope this helps

When using the cleanup utility, do I need to delete the data from the registry like is described on the link?

David, you can try just running the cleanup utility 'as is' (answering the prompts that are shown) - the registry data should only need to be deleted if you are wanting to completely remove all traces of Acronis and not intending to reinstall again.

To save your task configuration, save the C:\ProgramData\Acronis\TrueImageHome\Scripts folder contents where there are a number of .tib.tis files which hold the XML data for your tasks - you can open these in any text editor such as notepad.  The task name is shown inside <display> my name </display> brackets near the top of the file.

Thanks for your help, Ian and Steve. This appears to have worked. You guys have a great day.

David, thanks for the feedback, glad to hear the reinstall worked.

Yes, good to hear that your have overcome the problem.

If this is the same problem I just ran into, it's because they are not saving the install file in an approved place and Windows doesn't allow it to run from that location.

They put it in C:\Users\username\AppData\Local

This is precisely what malware does and is prevented from running. I moved the .exe to my Downloads folder and then I was able to run it without Windows telling me it prevented it from running.

This has been going on for several updates now.  It's frustrating when bugs that should be solved in an afternoon persist for many versions.

Mike, please submit Feedback via the application feedback tool about this issue.  I agree that using this type of appdata folder can be a problem, especially as many security applications will block applications from running from such a location.
