Acronis TI 2017 released?

Thread needs solution

Hi Everyone,

I have Acronis TI 2016 3 PC license which I bought some time ago (not recently), Today I see a version of Acronis TI2017 was released http://fileforum.betanews.com/detail/Acronis-True-Image/1020414524/1  I don't think I personally need to upgrade to 2017 so I'll ask.  Should I upgrade, do I need anything in ATI 2017 that I don't have in ATI 2016, What exactly is the benefit of the upgrade?  How much will my 3 license upgrade cost from 2016 to 2017 and does anyone think the cost (whatever it is) is worth it?

Thanks for any guidance,

Steve, the key reason for upgrading (in my opinion) is the support changes introduced with ATIH 2017 which now comes with a full year of support versus the 30 days support (from date of purchase) with ATIH 2016 and earlier.

Acronis has just release ATIH 2017 Update 1 to fix some early problems in the initial release that weren't uncovered by the Beta testing process - otherwise the functionality is very similar to ATIH 2016 from a user perspective.  Some new Cloud protection services have been introduced.

You would need to speak with Acronis Sales for answers to your question about costs for upgrading.

Also note that like with earlier versions, ATIH 2017 comes in two distinct flavours, a perpetual license version (buy once use forever) and a subscription license version (buy now, pay again in one or two years depending on which subscription you get, with support for the entire subscription period and free upgrades whilst the subscription is active).  The subscription version also comes coupled with a selected amount of Acronis Cloud storage.
Note: If the subscription version is not renewed then all functionality is lost apart the ability to restore an existing backup and all Cloud data will be deleted 30 days later.

Hi Steve my ATI2016 is a perpetual license with NO cloud, SO I think you are saying I don't need ATI2017 except it has a year of support where ATI2016 has/HAD 30 days support BUT otherwise you don't see any other difference(since I don't personally use cloud)?  Is that basically true?  If so 2016 is good for me, helped me recover once when I got a bad virus somehow, so I'm a happy camper!

Steve1209,

Bobbo_3C0X1 has listed the release noted in the link below:

In addition to the Cloud protection services, listed by Steve Smith, ATI 2017 significantly improves NAS support...especially if using multiple NAS accounts.  For me, the NAS support is worth the upgrade.  If you are not using a NAS and not using the cloud and are happy with ATI 2016 performance, then you should stick with ATI 2016.

I am glad you were able to recover from the bad virus...I always love a success story.

FtrPilot

I'm going to post the same query as Steve 1209 posted back on 09/20/2016 asking if there's a really good reason why I should upgrade to TI 2017?

I currently have 2 licenses for TI 2016, one for my PC the other for my laptop and both have saved my bacon several times.  I don't use the cloud, I instead, do my backups to two seperate USB connected hard drives.  I was not considering upgrading but Acronis has sent out an email that says if I upgrade 1 license for $19.99 they will give me a second copy for free.  Ugrading my two copies for $19.99 sounds like it's a pretty good deal  but can anyone give me advice as to whether there is any additioal functionality that would justifies that cost?  Thanks.

William, in my opinion there are not a great many differences between the 2016 and 2017 versions if you are not going to be using the Cloud or Subscription options - I am sure most of the changes have already been covered in this topic thread - such as improved support for NAS devices, new hardware support, and mobile device backup to local PC.

The other advantage when first released was the change in support from 30-days to 2 years, but this has now been retrofitted to 2016 too.  Apart from this, the only other consideration is that there are likely to be far more fixes produced for 2017 than for 2016 (if any beyond 6581).  $19.99 for 2 licenses sounds a good deal, even if to put in the cupboard and stay with 2016 for the time being.

Steve,

Thank you for the reply.  I was thinking along those same lines that $19.99 was a good deal for two licences instead of paying for the upgrade cost for each of my two copies.  In addition, you make a good point about the periodic patches to the product that will most likely stop on the 2016 version now that the 2017 version is the supported product.  Plus, like you said, even if I were to put the 2017 version on the shelf, I will still get 2 years of product support whereas I would only have 1 year left if I stay with 2016.
