Acronis True Image 2016 Fails - Antivirus Problem?
I can't get Acronis True Image 2016 to work on my Windows 10 system. When I attempt to image my system True Image either fails to get beyond estimating how long the backup will take or alternately estimates a backup time that is ludicrous, e.g. days. My system drive is only around 250 gb.
Could my antivirus software be the culprit? I use AVG Free. I also tried Avira Free, but it made things worse. If my antivirus is the cause, what is the remedy? BTW, I tried to insert my AVG folder in exceptions, but the exceptions folder froze.
Any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Terry,
Hopefully, Bobbo's recommendation will fix your problem. If it doesn't fix your problem, then some additional information would be helpful. For example:
What type computer...desktop or laptop? Hard drive configuration? Backup destination? External USB? Internal hard drive?
What type of backup are you trying to run? Entire PC? Disks & Partitions?
Are you running the latest version if ATI 2016? Build 6559?

Thank you all for your responses.
I tried Bobbo's fixes - to no avail. First I tried to stop VSS, but it would immediately restart. Then I altered my scripts, but that didn't work either. Currently ATI 2016 says the backup will take nine days. And yes, I am using Build 6559. BTW, VSS is stopped when I run my modified script.
I also tried "white-listing" all my True Image folders in AVG Free antivirus. No apparent impact at all.
My computer is a powerful desktop with 3 internal hard drives and 3 external. I am trying to backup my first hard drive, an SSD, that contains my Win10 system, drive C:, partition as well as other partitions, including my MBR, to one of my external, USB hard drives, which appears to have ample room, i.e. about 400 GB.
Any further guidance would be much appreciated. I am stymied.

Terry, have you tried performing a backup of your SSD to the external USB drive using the bootable rescue media, on DVD or USB stick?
This would immediately rule out any software / antivirus impact on the backup performance and would demonstrate how quickly a dedicated backup can backup your 250GB source data.

I know maybe it won't help you but I have a similar configuration (Win10 x64, Asus Z170A i6700, 250SSD + 2HDs)
True Image (latest version) works quite well together with Avira antivirus free + Comodo Firewall (which might even be more "problematic" than just AVG).
System protection and hybernation are disabled.
I had problems with the previous version of True Image so I only installed it to create full backups (it takes about 2/3 minutes for about 25GB full backup). At the moment, I'm using a scheduled incremental profile.

OK, I figured it out. When I did a backup to an internal hard drive, it took minutes (not days). So the problem appears to be my external, USB drive. I will work on this.

FYI - apparently AV can block the installatoin of the new version as well. It's reported in several other forum threads. Just wanted to point this out since that whas the OP's original thought, but has not really been an issue with previous versions of Acronis True Image Home 2016. See information provided by MVP Steve Smith for the multiple AV scans on the installer.

A new (related?) problem has emerged. Although I now can do backups to my internal drives and some (but not all) external drives, ATI 2016 is very slow to boot up. When I click on the ATI icon it take minutes for ATI to start, and sometimes it doesn't start at all. I've tried activating ATI as admistrator, but that does not seem to make a difference. any ideas or suggestions?

Terry, have you tried white-listing Acronis in your security program settings as that could impact upon performance if the Acronis executables are being scanned in realtime each time you launch the application?

Disk corruption can cause slow starts as well. Best to run disk diagnostic utilities or at least chkdsk on all drive partitions to scan for errors.

I have the same Build an the same Problem: TI fails to get beyond estimating how long the backup will take. I tried to use a NAS, a local USB-Drive and a network folder, all the same.
I also excluded the named folders in the settings of my anti virus (avira), and I disabled the vss in the script file. It doesn't help.
Remark: Several days ago I reached to do the backup once, also after several times of trying (with the same fault) but I can't get it to run now.
Any other suggestion?

Update: After performing a restart of my PC it seems to work properly now. Due to having changed two settings (anti virus, vss) simultaneously I can't figure out what really helped.
Thx for all comments.

Markus,
Glad it's working, none-the-less. I'd guess VSS was the issue for the stuck at estimating problem. That's usually the one. Did you disable VSS for that backup script, or just turn it off, or did the restart just resolve things on it's own. FYI, you don't necessarily have to disable VSS completely, it can be done per task via a pre and post command, or more easily by editing the backup script itself.

In my opinion it looks like a malware. I use this scanner viruses http://myspybot.com/query-router-virus/. In addition, the Free Avast seems to me more reliable than AVG or Avira.
